After all the damage I've done, it's only right to use my powers for a little reconstructive work on the Gems I've hurt.

Yellow Diamond, or Yellow for short, is a Homeworld Gem and a member of the Great Diamond Authority that formerly ruled over the Gem race. In particular, she commanded her now-disbanded military and oversaw Gem production on her colonies. She was first shown in the extended theme song before making her official debut in "Message Received".

As a result of Era 3, Yellow now works to repair Gems she had previously shattered in her Cluster experiments and wishes to use her powers to help other Gems alter their physical form if they choose to do so.

Appearance

As one of the rulers of Homeworld, Yellow Diamond's of massive size, her height dwarfing almost all other Gems. She has light yellow skin and she has black markings around her eyes, dark yellow eyeshadow, bright yellow eyes with diamond-shaped pupils and black eyebrows, and short, helmet-like bob yellow hair with two spiked tips.[2][3] Her gemstone is located in the center of her chest.

Yellow Diamond wears a dark yellow and olive bodysuit, a yellow coat with enormous shoulder pads and a cutout for her gemstone, yellow gloves, and olive-yellow, high-heeled boots. It can be assumed that Yellow wears a long overcoat that hangs past her knees when she is on Homeworld ("Message Received", "The Trial"), but she wears a short yellow tailcoat-like attire when she is traveling ("That Will Be All", "Jungle Moon", "Can't Go Back", "Reunited, "Diamond Days").

Personality

Before Era 3

Message Recieved YD angry

Angered Yellow Diamond.

As shown in her debut, Homeworld reputes Yellow Diamond as a perfectly logical and rational leader, though in reality, she is vindictive and quick to anger. When her followers contacted her but failed, she is rather annoyed but will offer them multiple chances to redeem themselves, as shown with Peridot and one of her Nephrites. Yellow is shown to have a blunt and "down-to-business" attitude, taking over the call Peridot was having with her Pearl to get the message that the former had quickly. She tells Holly Blue Agate to "get to the point" when she begins to ramble on, something which she did again with the prosecuting Zircon's praises. She also kept pushing to shatter Steven/Rose and get the trial over with.

Yellow Diamond has a dangerous and lethal temper, treating an act of disrespect against herself or her fellow Diamonds with aggression and violence. This was shown when she detonated the Diamond Communicator with the hopes of destroying Peridot and when she attacked both Zircons. Yellow is shown to get fed up when anyone disagrees with her beliefs, including about the value of other lifeforms and the caste system's duties. She yelled at Peridot for questioning her views of the Cluster, became frustrated when the defending Zircon shed light on the idea that Rose Quartz wasn't responsible for Pink Diamond's shattering, and even went as far as to attack Blue Diamond for disobeying White Diamond's will when the former was trying to help Steven and Connie escape with the Crystal Gems.

Despite being very efficient, Yellow Diamond puts forth her agenda under the guise that it's what's best for the Gem race. This is evident when she chose to reject Peridot's proposal to utilize the Earth again without ideas to not destroy the planet, despite the fact that Homeworld is low on resources as stated in "Too Short to Ride". This is also shown in "Change Your Mind" when she insists that everyone has to make sacrifices for the sake of a "perfect empire." After Steven helped her realize that her actions have done more harm than good though, Yellow changes her mindset in terms of what is really best for the empire and her beloved ones.

When dealing with grief, Yellow tries to suppress her negative feelings and instead wishes to move forward. She expresses this to Blue by explaining that she should "start looking forward and stop looking back". Yellow finds it ridiculous that Blue is doing so much to preserve Pink Diamond's legacy instead of trying to move forward, opting instead to destroy Earth as it remains a tragedy for the Diamonds until the Cluster's failure. Yellow's thoughts reveal that she blames herself for Pink's fate after giving in to the latter's desire to have her own colony despite Yellow believing Pink wasn't ready for such responsibility, meaning her wish to forget about the past is her wanting to bury the guilt to lessen the pain.

When Steven is revealed to be the bearer of Pink Diamond's Gem, Yellow showcases genuine concern for his well-being and safety, deciding not to attack any of the Crystal Gems or even ask Garnet to unfuse. She still adheres to Homeworld's rules and customs though, poofing Opal, Garnet, and a Jade fusion once Stevonnie forms at the Era 3 Ball and the Crystal Gems fuse to stick up for them, not attacking the latter for "Pink's" safety but instead imprisons them in a room.

In "Change Your Mind", it is shown that she and Blue are in fact miserable because of White's controlling and perfectionist nature. When she finally broke down crying it was shown that she was so not used to showing her feelings that she thought that Blue was using her power on her. It is also shown that Yellow can be selfless and caring, telling Steven to take her ship and leave Homeworld while she and Blue distract White.

After Era 3

Following the dissolution of the Great Diamond Authority's authoritarian rule of the Gem empire, the more positive attributes of Yellow's personality are put on display.

In Steven Universe: The Movie, though Yellow still appears bold and retains a commanding demeanor, she has also allowed herself to be more open-minded in terms of humor. Previously, Yellow was shown to briefly laugh but usually remained a serious attitude. However, Yellow now isn't afraid to laugh herself to tears in front of others, and while she still wishes to remain professional, she is about to "let loose" more often. When the Diamonds adopt Spinel, Yellow is shown to be as caring as ever, just as she was with Blue Diamond in the original series.

In "Homeworld Bound", Yellow Diamond's personality has evidently changed for the better. She expresses deep remorse over her Gem experiments, joyfully and willingly fixing the Gems she once shattered, and even states her intentions to heal the Gems from the Cluster. Additionally, she obliges to Spinel's requests, and becomes helpful towards Steven, chastising him for his newfound temper issues, and ordering him to go to Blue for assistance when she is unable to cure him.

In "I Am My Monster", Yellow, the other Diamonds, and Spinel work to save Steven from himself alongside the Crystal Gems. At one instance, Yellow and Blue both break down, believing they are the cause of Steven's suffering due to the way they had previously behaved.

History

Ancient History

Yellow Diamond has existed for thousands of years. Over time, she amassed a great amount of respect, colonies, and Gems. It is revealed in "Your Mother and Mine" that some of Yellow Diamond's many colonies are asteroid fields that are used as mines.

Although she sometimes clashed with Pink Diamond, Yellow Diamond had a very close relationship with her. Along with the other Diamonds, she would attend many of Pink's parties in celebration of the Diamond Authority's achievements. All of the Diamonds would come to her pool area, where Pink would stand underwater and sing, while she, White and Blue attempted to guess the song.

During her colonization of the Jungle Moon's planet, Yellow had Pink observe her. To the latter's amazement, she commanded a fleet of Nephrites to begin colonizing the planet, disregarding their concerns of organic life on the surface. Pink's fascination became an annoyance to Yellow since she began to play around with her control panel, so the latter eventually scolded the former for her immaturity.

Over 6,000 Years Ago

In "Reunited", Yellow reveals that she eventually gave into Pink's begging and allowed her to run a colony. When Pink later no longer wanted to colonize Earth, Yellow scolded and told her to finish what she had started.

Over 5,000 Years Ago

When Pink eventually staged her own shattering and Earth was deemed to no longer be a viable colony, Yellow headed The Cluster project, using the shattered remains of Crystal Gems to serve as prototypes. Although Yellow was interested in having the weapon as a part of her arsenal, the main purpose of the Cluster was to destroy the Earth so that she could move past Pink's demise and the guilt she felt over it.

Yellow also aided in unleashing the Corrupting Light when combining her powers with White and Blue Diamond at the end of the Rebellion with the intent of obliterating every Gem left on Earth's surface. Over the course of the following thousands of years, Yellow blames herself for Pink's demise, knowing that she was not ready for a colony of her own but giving in nonetheless.

Before "Warp Tour"

Yellow Diamond wishes to know how the Cluster and its prototypes are developing. She assigns Peridot to go to the Prime Kindergarten Control Room on Earth to retrieve this information.

After "Marble Madness"

Once Peridot reports that Gems are still present on Earth, Yellow Diamond assigns Jasper to escort her there in a Gem Warship.

"The Return"

After Steven summons Rose's shield, Jasper tells Peridot that Yellow Diamond has to see what Rose has become.

"Cry for Help"

Peridot uses the Earth's Communication Hub to send out a distress signal to Yellow Diamond. She tells Yellow Diamond that her mission has been compromised and that she lost Jasper and Lapis Lazuli, and begs her to send help.

"Catch and Release"

After coming to the realization that there may be no way to get off of the Earth, Peridot freaks out and mentions how she still never received a response from Yellow Diamond.

"It Could've Been Great"

Peridot becomes ecstatic at the Moon Base when she sees Yellow Diamond's mural. She asks Steven if he agrees with her that Yellow Diamond is magnificent.

"Message Received"

Peridot describes Yellow Diamond as "the most perfect, the most reasonable, rational, efficient decider ever to exist in the universe." Later on, Peridot uses the Diamond Communicator to call her. Yellow Diamond takes over the call after her Pearl talks to Peridot. She asks Peridot how her mission to Earth was, inquires about Jasper's whereabouts, and what happened to the ship. Yellow Diamond thanks Peridot for her report, and tells her that she would be sending a ship to her location to pick her up, but Peridot continues the call, telling Yellow Diamond that they should terminate the Cluster because the Earth has so many valuable resources. Yellow Diamond disagrees because she wants the Cluster to emerge and for the Earth to die. This causes the two to get into an argument and eventually leads to Peridot insulting Yellow Diamond. After the call is over, Yellow Diamond remotely detonates the Diamond Communicator in anger.

"Log Date 7 15 2"

Peridot is shown to be fearful after realizing she insulted Yellow Diamond.

"Hit the Diamond"

Yellow Diamond sends a group of Rubies to the Earth to locate and retrieve Jasper. Peridot reveals that Yellow Diamond has full control of Homeworld's army.

"That Will Be All"

Yellow Diamond comes to the Zoo, only to find Blue Diamond crying in the bubble room. She tells her that she has come to bring her "back to reality," which she believes is moving on from Pink Diamond instead of constantly grieving. She sings to Blue Diamond, expressing that although the Diamonds still love and think about Pink Diamond, they need to move on to the best interest of their empire. When Yellow Diamond discovers that all Blue Diamond wants is to preserve more humans for the Zoo, she asks Sapphire if the Cluster emerged yet. When she says it has not yet, Yellow Diamond reassures Blue Diamond that "there's still time", before dismissing them.

"I Am My Mom"

Using the report they received from Peridot in "Marble Madness", Blue and Yellow Diamond send Aquamarine and Topaz to Earth to retrieve the different human varieties mentioned by Steven during his very first interaction with Peridot.

"The Trial"

Yellow Diamond and Blue Diamond arrive in the courtroom on Homeworld to run a trial against Steven (whom they believe is Rose Quartz and Pink Diamond's murderer). Upon seeing Steven for the first time, Yellow Diamond tells Blue Diamond that they should shatter him just for taking on a "hideous form". Upon Blue Diamond's wishes, Yellow reluctantly agrees to the trial and summons her and Blue's thrones. When the yellow prosecuting Zircon addresses Yellow Diamond by many names, Yellow becomes irritated and tells her that "my Diamond" will suffice. After the prosecuting Zircon makes her case with the help of Eyeball, Yellow Diamond is convinced that Rose is guilty and believes it is time to execute Steven, but the trial continues upon Blue Diamond's wishes so the defense can speak. The blue defending Zircon wishes to remind the court that Steven turned himself in, which Yellow Diamond replies "the court remembers, and the court does not care". When Steven tells the Diamonds that he shattered Pink Diamond, Yellow becomes relieved, thinking that the trial is over because he confessed. Blue Diamond asks Steven how he shattered Pink Diamond, and he makes up a story since he doesn't know the exact details. This causes Blue Diamond to become distressed at the inconsistencies of Steven's story. Yellow then yells at Steven for upsetting her and calls a short recess before going to comfort Blue Diamond.

As the defending Zircon makes her argument, asking the Diamonds how a Rose Quartz got past Pink Diamond's entire entourage, Yellow Diamond becomes outraged; she slams her fists down and yells that her entourage was there and they saw the whole thing. Yellow Diamond yells to the Zircon that Rose must have slipped past Pink Diamond's Agates and Sapphires. Once the defending Zircon blames the Diamonds for the death of Pink, Yellow stands up and poofs her with her finger, and then uses an electricity attack to poof the prosecuting Zircon. Right afterward, Yellow tells Blue that they don't need to listen to that "nonsense" and that they can shatter Steven and be done with it. Blue yells at Yellow, asking if she can restrain herself, to which Yellow responds that the trial is pointless. After Steven and Lars escape in Blue Diamond's Palanquin, Yellow Diamond cuts her own hole in the side of the building. As the palanquin falls, Yellow Diamond stands at the edge of the hole and warns Steven "You think you can get away, Rose? You stood your ground on that little speck called Earth... but you're on our world now."

"Raising the Barn"

Steven mentions Yellow Diamond to Peridot and Lapis over video chat. He tells them about his encounter with the Diamonds on Homeworld, and how he and Lars escaped in Blue Diamond's Palanquin. This shocks Lapis, causing her to abruptly end the call.

"Jungle Moon"

Act like it

Yellow Diamond's representation yelling at Pink Diamond's representation.

After falling asleep in an abandoned base on the Jungle Moon, Stevonnie dreams of a hypothetical exchange where Dr. Maheswaran, dressed as Yellow Diamond, interacts with Pink Diamond, represented by Stevonnie. While Yellow takes care of communicating with a crew of Nephrites to initiate contact with the Jungle Moon's planet for invasion and colonization, getting increasingly angered by the crew's incompetence, Pink incessantly tries to get Yellow's attention, much to Yellow's annoyance. After the call ends, Yellow goes back to her controls where Pink bothers her some more, curious about her commands. While Yellow is patient enough to explain it to her, Pink's insistence starts to get on her nerves. Pink then eventually throws a tantrum about not being treated equally to the other Diamonds and demands to have colonies of her own too. Yellow refutes by stating that if she wants such things she must behave like the Diamond leader she is, getting aggressive towards her. Pink walks away and Yellow carries on with the rest of the plans for colonizing the jungle moon's planet. After Stevonnie wakes up and goes to the top floor of the moon base, they find evidence revealing the dream sequence was a flashback to what happened many years ago. Yellow later also appears in another mural in said base, and in a slide in the base's systems, unaware of her Pearl taking a 'selfie' of the two.

"Your Mother and Mine"

Yellow Diamond appears in Garnet's story of Rose Quartz. At the end of the Rebellion, she helps Blue and White Diamond accidently corrupt most of the remaining Gems on Earth.

"Can't Go Back"

Yellow Diamond appears in Steven's dream of the Diamonds. She says nothing during the conversation between Blue Diamond and Pink Diamond and appears to ignore them entirely.

"A Single Pale Rose"

Yellow Diamond briefly appears at the beginning of the episode in a flashback to Steven's trial. She is also mentioned by Rose Quartz when she states that Yellow never cared about her or her pleas to stop the Earth's colonization.

"Now We're Only Falling Apart"

Yellow Diamond appears in Pearl's flashback about Pink Diamond. Pink pleads with her to spare the Earth, but she refuses to listen, forcing Pink to begin the Rebellion as Rose Quartz.

"Reunited"

Yellow arrives with Blue on Earth to reactivate the Cluster. Using her arm ship, Yellow pops the Cluster's bubble, and when it forms in the shape of an arm, it attacks Yellow's ship. Yellow's ship and the Cluster then engage in arm wrestling until the ship eventually breaks down. The Cluster then smashes Yellow's defenseless ship into Blue's, causing Yellow to step out onto the beach. When Peridot taunts her, Yellow poofs her and later knocks Steven out in a fit of rage when he claims to be Pink Diamond. Yellow then later poofs Lapis Lazuli. In his mindscape, Steven discovers that Yellow blames herself for Pink's demise due to allowing her to run a colony. When Steven makes his presence known, Yellow and Blue attack him until Steven reveals that he can control Pink's aura. Steven then wakes up with the Gems along with Yellow and Blue standing over him, the latter two believing he is Pink.

"Legs From Here to Homeworld"

Yellow tries activating her ship, but it is too broken to function. She then walks over to Steven and asks "Pink" why she would let them believe she was shattered, and why she is in a "ridiculous disguise" and "doing a voice". After Steven briefly explains the story of Pink and Rose and tells the Diamonds that he does not have her memories, Yellow believes Pink's memories must be somewhere inside of Steven. Steven takes Yellow and Blue to the Ancient Gem Colony Ship to show them what their Corrupting Light did to Gems. Yellow is confused when she sees Centipeetle, not understanding what she is and then stating that nobody should have survived the attack. Steven convinces the Diamonds to try to heal her; Yellow reverts Centipeetle back to her normal form, Blue heals her damaged mind, and Steven makes her mind and thoughts coherent. Centipeetle, now known as Nephrite, believes that Yellow and Blue came back to Earth and avenged Pink Diamond, destroying Rose Quartz. This causes Yellow and Blue to let go of her out of shame, and Nephrite reverts to the monstrous Centipeetle form.

Yellow asks "Pink" how many perfectly adequate Gems she had them ruin. She then tells Steven that in order to permanently and properly heal Corrupted Gems, they need White Diamond's help. Yellow and the others board Pink Diamond's abandoned ship from Rose's Landfill and begin traveling towards Homeworld. On the way there, Yellow tells Steven that they'll be lucky if White ever speaks to them again and that returning to Homeworld via Pink's ship will irrefutably make the last 6,000 years the biggest galactic embarrassment that's ever happened, and that they are the ones to blame. She warns Steven to let her do the talking when they meet with White. When they arrive on Homeworld, Yellow tells everyone to wait on the ship while Blue and herself speak with White. Everyone then hears the sound of a crowd cheering and proceed to exit the ship. When White Pearl arrives requesting Steven's presence, Yellow calls Blue over but White Pearl emphasizes that only Pink Diamond is necessary.

"Familiar"

Yellow sends Yellow Pearl to bring "Pink Diamond" to the Extraction Chamber. Upon greeting Steven, she tells him that her sauna is new, and asks how his meeting with White went. She comments that Steven only being able to speak two and a half words to White is a new record, and wishes him luck with attempting to talk to her about the Corrupted Gems. She tells Steven that "White never leaves her head these days" or lets anyone in, except Pink, which she believes to be unfair given how many colonies she owns and Pink only having one failed colony. Steven tells her that maybe she should fail in order to receive White's sympathy, which Yellow laughs off and reminisces about how Pink always knew how to make her laugh. Yellow then receives a notification that she must check up on the Citrine production reports, and excuses herself.

Pearl later tells Steven "Yellow Diamond oversees all aspects of Gem production on every single one of her colonies, and when she's not doing that, she's off with her army conquering the next one".

"Together Alone"

Steven has a nightmare where he is juggling with White Pearl before Yellow enters the room by extending her neck to check if they are fooling around. Once they pretend they are not, Yellow happily leaves.

In the Diamond Throne Room, Yellow finds the idea of Steven throwing a ball to be brilliant, as the return of Pink Diamond would mark the beginning of Era 3. She instructs her Pearl to go over Homeworld's customs with Steven since he has no memories from Pink Diamond's time on Homeworld.

As the ball begins, Yellow Pearl announces Yellow's entrance to the crowd, and she compliments Steven on having a big turnout. Later, however, when Steven and Connie accidentally fuse on the dance floor, Yellow scolds them and uses her electrokinesis to poof Garnet, Opal, and a Jade fusion. Yellow then throws Stevonnie into an unknown room to think about what they did wrong, claiming that Pink has gone too far, even for her own standards.

"Change Your Mind"

Blue Diamond takes Steven and Connie to Yellow Diamond's Bubble Chamber to retrieve the Crystal Gems, to which Yellow Diamond questions what they are doing. Steven clearly states his intent to return the Crystal Gems to Earth, as they are happier there than they are on Homeworld. Yellow tells Blue to take "Pink" back to the prison tower, but Blue tells that he prefer to be called "Steven". Yellow was angry as what was Blue talking about that she can't keep bending the rules, "she set an example and we have to set the example. If we bend the rules for her, then we have to bend for everyone!" as Connie tell her that she should. Yellow furiously as she yells at Blue again to take Steven and Connie back to the prison tower, but Blue refuses and the two begin to fight. While Blue and Yellow are distracted with their fight, Steven and Connie retrieve the bubble the Crystal Gems are contained in. Steven creates a bubble around him, Connie, and the Gems as Blue and Yellow's fight causes them to break through a wall.

Yellow angrily yells at Blue, asking why she would hurt her closest companion and a fellow Diamond. In anger, Yellow attacks Blue with her destabilizing electrokinesis repeatedly until Steven throws his shield at her hand, causing her to stop. Steven yells that Yellow doesn't have to fight, but Yellow refuses, rebutting that they all have to make sacrifices to appease White Diamond and maintain the "perfection" of the Gem Empire. Steven asks Yellow Diamond if this is what she would consider "perfect". Yellow analyzes the situation and realizes that doing this would cause everything that makes her happy to disappear, causing her to relent her attack and finally listen to Steven.

Steven secures the Crystal Gems to leave, wondering why they haven't reformed yet. Yellow tells him that they will be out for a while, due to taking a direct hit from her destabilizing electrokinesis. Blue interrupts and tells them they have to leave before White finds out their plan. Yellow and Blue begin taking Steven, Connie, and the Gems to the Pink's ship, but White Pearl stops them, menacingly telling Steven that he's "not going anywhere". White Diamond's ship then begins flying and connects with Pink's.

However, Yellow Diamond and Blue Diamond's ships, repaired and piloted by Bismuth and Lapis and Peridot respectively, attack White and knocks the ships over. Blue tells them to take one of their ships to escape to Earth, with Yellow insisting that they hold off White while Pink escapes. Steven refuses, saying that Pink ran away from them, then started a war with them, and states that it's time to finally just talk to them. Yellow and Blue attach their ships to the Diamond Mech, and Steven forces it to kneel and listen. Finally, with White Diamond's attention, Steven tells her that Yellow and Blue are unhappy with the standards she expects, of which Yellow elaborates that even though she does everything perfectly, it doesn't seem to ever be enough for White, and that causes a lot of stress for both Yellow and all the other Gems. Blue reminds White that they all used to be close and that Pink's seemingly meaningless actions were to try and keep them together and happy. Blue adds that though her purpose isn't to be happy, she finds it more difficult to enforce White's rules when they make her feel so miserable. Steven asks White once more to allow them inside her head to try and make a new beginning. White Diamond responds by firing beams from her eyes that completely remove the color of both Yellow and Blue Diamond, who then warp into the Diamond Mech.

Later, when the Gem break into White's ship, Blue and Yellow are still under her control. After Steven breaks through to White, she releases her control of them. They all then go to Earth to cure all of the Corrupted Gems, crashing Sadie Miller's concert. Here, they witness the arrival of Lars and the Off-Colors and after that brief interaction, they all come together at Rose's Fountain, healing all of the Corrupted Gems. Afterward, Steven waves goodbye to them, to which Yellow's arm on the Diamond Mech signals a peace sign, and they all go back to Homeworld, leaving Pink's Ship behind.

Steven Universe: The Movie

She, along with the other Diamonds, asks Steven to stay on Homeworld (Let Us Adore You), claiming she has disbanded her armies and liberated her colonies. Later, she returns in an to attempt to stay on Earth with Steven, but instead "adopts" Spinel.

"Homeworld Bound"

Yellow is seen in her room reconstructing Chert and Flint. When Steven asks what she was doing in a worried tone, she jumps, startled by his presence. She then explains she was reversing her experiments, adding it was right to use her powers for reconstructive work on the gems she hurt. She also says she had to fix the gems in the Cluster and suggests Steven should send her any uncorrupted Quartz who wants their horns reduced, adding she could permanently alter any physical form, suggesting Spinel should serve as her guinea pig to show Steven what she means. Yellow then makes her arms look thick and muscular and her legs really short. When Steven tells her of his condition, Yellow proceeds to shrink him and then make him large, causing Steven to complain he doesn't want to change size or appearance. Yellow is shocked at this, saying if anything was out of order it 's his temper, and advises him to see Blue since that is her department. She is later seen with Blue when they see Steven charging through the halls with Spinel, asking if White was able to help since Blue didn't. Yellow and the other Diamonds, along with Spinel, watch Steven warp away.

"I Am My Monster"

Yellow, along with Blue, White, and Spinel, travel to Earth to check on Steven, only to find a giant monster. They are shocked when Garnet says it's actually Steven. Yellow then tries to alter Steven's physical form with little success, When Blue tries to make him feel better with her happiness clouds (only to have Steven roar at them, causing the clouds to directly hit her and Spinel who is standing on her shoulder), Yellow bursts into laughter. Later, she says that she along with Blue and White were the source of his suffering, only to be corrected by Connie. She joins everyone else to help Steven. At the end of the episode, she is seen with everyone else, glad to see Steven back to normal.

Abilities

As a diamond, Yellow Diamond is one of the most powerful gems in the universe. She possesses standard Gem abilities: bubbling, shapeshifting, fusion, regeneration, agelessness, gravity shifting, photokinesis, gem storage, and superhuman strength/durability, but since she is a Diamond, her abilities are expected to be much greater than other Gems. With Blue Diamond's assistance, she was able to fight Garnet, Bismuth, Pearl, Amethyst, and Lion to a standstill, as well as to poof Peridot and Lapis Lazuli in seconds. In "Together Alone" she single-handedly dispatched Garnet, Opal, and a Jade fusion instantly.

Skillset

  • Spaceship Piloting: Yellow Diamond has a spaceship only she is capable of controlling, until it was repaired by Bismuth, Peridot, and Lapis Lazuli. She is able to use the ship in combat.

Natural Abilities

  • Immense Strength:
    Reunited (783)

Yellow Diamond lifting a finger of the ship

Due to how large she is, Yellow Diamond is extremely strong. She is notable for her incredible strength, which she uses in combat. With the press of her finger, she poofed a Zircon Gem. She could lift a finger of Blue Diamond's ship with one hand, freeing her, and punch her way out of her warship. Her strength is enough to push Steven into the ground and knock him out despite him taking shelter behind a large shield, which attacks as destructive as a warship beam had failed to so much as move in the past.
  • Immense Durability: Yellow Diamond has an astounding endurance matched with Blue Diamond's, emerging from her ship completely unharmed after the Cluster slammed it into Blue Diamond's and the ground.
  • Enhanced Speed: Partly due to her size, Yellow is remarkably fast, charging at Steven and attacking him before any of the Crystal Gems could intervene.
  • Bubbling: Yellow Diamond is able to bubble objects, she was seen most often with bubbles with shattered Gems inside. Her bubbles are yellow.

Unique Abilities

  • Aura Projection: The Diamonds can project an aura around them that they can control, either radiating it from their entire bodies or emitting it from specific parts of their bodies (i.e., their hands). Yellow's aura is represented as yellow clouds of electricity. She can use this as an offensive ability in both the physical and mental plane (as seen when she was able to focus her aura on Steven), and was even capable of cutting a diamond-shaped hole in "The Trial".
    • Light Destabilization:
      Case closed

      Yellow Diamond's Electric Aura.

Yellow Diamond can generate powerful electric currents around her entire body and then project it from her fingertips, which are powerful enough to destabilize a Gem's form. In "The Trial", her power was able to cut through a thick wall. She can also focus energy to rapid-fire her discharge as seen in "Together Alone". This ability is apparently used in Gem technology, such as the Gem Warships and in the Gem Destabilizers. In "Change Your Mind", it is confirmed that her powers can cause a Gem's reformation to take longer than normal, as it was previously evidenced in "Legs From Here to Homeworld" with Lapis and Peridot taking over a day to reform after they were previously poofed by Yellow Diamond in "Reunited". Her power appears to have its limits, as Blue Diamond was rather resistant to poofing when Yellow was attacking her, probably due to the former's power.
    • Corruption Induction:
      Yellow Diamond's Light Destabilization

      Yellow Diamond's Light Destabilization

Though the attack was meant to obliterate the Crystal Gems on Earth after Pink's supposed shattering; Yellow, Blue, and White Diamond's collective powers instead corrupted the remaining Gems on Earth.
      • Corruption Reversal: Along with Pink/Steven, White, and Blue Diamond, Yellow Diamond has the ability to reverse the effects of the Corrupting Light on Gems. However, it is implied that this is only temporary without the power of all four Diamonds. The four reversed the corruption on the water of Rose's Fountain in "Change Your Mind".
    • Psychic Resistance: Yellow Diamond's aura shields her from telepathic abilities through the sheer intensity of her thoughts, even without her own awareness. This includes Pink Diamond's projection as seen when she briefly repelled Steven, though this resistance doesn't extend to Blue Diamond's pathogenesis and White Diamond's Mind Control on their total extent.
      • Psychic Blast: She can fire her aura as a beam which induces profound distress in the target. Despite combining her assault with Blue Diamond's, it was repelled by Steven's own aura.
      • Psychic Detection: She is also able to locate others on the mental plane when they aren't in physical contact with her, such as Steven.
  • Shapeshifting Manipulation:
    Homeworld Bound 061

    Yellow's shapeshifting manipulation.

As shown in "Homeworld Bound", Yellow Diamond, through the energy of her aura, can manipulate the physical form of the gems, being able to diminish them, to increase them, to distort or to repair their members, among other things. Yellow used this to repair gems that were stuck in forced fusion, repairing their weakened physical form. She also used that to distort and change Spinel and Steven's limbs and sizes and make Garnet grow. It's stated by herself that when she uses this power, the effects of it are permanent, meaning there are no negative effects if a gem were to have their physical form altered for a long period of time.

Clandestine Abilities

  • White Capsule Generation: While controlled by White Diamond, Yellow Diamond can create a kind of white capsule around itself or other gems, with several utilities.
    • Levitational Transport: The capsule can float around, as seen in "Change Your Mind".
    • Teleportation: The capsule can teleport Yellow Diamond, as seen in "Change Your Mind"
  • Levitation: While controlled by White Diamond, Yellow Diamond has the ability to, indirectly, suspend her body.
  • Optical White Burst: While controlled by White Diamond, Yellow Diamond is capable of emitting a sudden blast of white energy (equivalent to White Diamond's aura) from both her eyes. Those hit by this energy are then linked to White Diamond's hive mind and under her total mind control.

Blue comforting Yellow in one of her rare emotional breakdowns.

Yellow Diamond cares deeply for Blue Diamond, attempting to comfort her with a song and sympathize with her. However, she doesn't understand Blue's desire to preserve Pink Diamond's legacy, as they both have different methods of mourning over their fellow Diamond. Yellow is firm on her as she believes it is best for Blue to focus on the future and her people rather than sit and wallow in regret.

During the trial against Rose Quartz (Steven), Yellow Diamond and Blue Diamond have conflicting views on the trial process; Yellow wants to get it over with and execute Steven, but Blue wants to hear Rose out and learn the truth. Yellow is seen comforting Blue Diamond when Steven unintentionally upsets her. When Yellow poofs the Zircons, Blue Diamond yells at Yellow, demanding she restrains herself.

In "Reunited", when Steven was talking to Blue in the mindscape and Blue said that she thought she heard something, Yellow said that she was being more hysterical than usual, implying that she thought Blue was usually hysterical, at least since the supposed shattering of Pink Diamond. Once Steven is revealed to possess Pink's Gem, Yellow and Blue seem to have a more cooperative relationship, as seen in "Together Alone" where they both agree that Steven throwing a ball would be the perfect event to mark the beginning of Era 3.

When Blue decides to help Steven and Connie return to Earth, Yellow tells her to send them back to the prison tower. Blue refuses, and the two engage in a physical fight that results in Yellow attempting to poof Blue. Steven stops her and makes her realize just how much her actions have hurt Blue and Pink, the two people she cares about most. Yellow breaks into tears as Blue comforts her. The two later work together to help Steven escape Homeworld, and are later seen having fun together along with White at Rose's fountain.

Pink Diamond

How miserable. I knew Pink couldn't handle her own colony. But, I gave in. And now, I'm to blame for her fate.

—"Reunited"
That Will Be All 144

A rare moment where Yellow loses her composure over Pink Diamond.

Yellow Diamond cared deeply for Pink Diamond, as her supposed demise caused Yellow Diamond to seek the destruction of Earth and anything reminding her of Pink. She also believes that all of Pink Diamond's Rose Quartzes should be shattered due to one of them being supposedly responsible for shattering her. The defending Zircon's theory that a Diamond may have been behind Pink Diamond's shattering threw her into a fury that caused her to poof both Zircons.

However, it is revealed in "Jungle Moon", through Stevonnie's dream flashback, that Pink and Yellow didn't always get along. Due to Pink's passionate, somewhat childish nature, she regularly got in between Yellow and her business, making the latter very annoyed, and forceful at times. She also had no qualms pointing out Pink's faults as a Diamond leader.

In "Can't Go Back" and "Now We're Only Falling Apart", it is revealed that Pink Diamond tried to convince the other Diamonds to let Earth be, through complaining that it was too hard to manage. When Yellow and Blue Diamond dismiss this, Pink Diamond is forced to take drastic measures and fake her shattering.

In "Reunited", when Steven listens to her thoughts, Yellow Diamond appears to blame herself for Pink Diamond's "shattering": Despite her misgivings, she relented and gave her a colony which ultimately led to her fate. After learning Pink's true fate, Yellow is relieved to find out that Pink was never shattered, but is angry at her for having deceived her and Blue and blames Steven (who she believes is Pink) for the Corrupted Gems.

In "Familiar", she states that Pink always managed to make her laugh. Despite this, she appears to envy Pink for gaining more of White's attention than her.

In "Change Your Mind", it is revealed that Yellow believes Pink abandoned her and Blue by faking her shattering and living on Earth. She later cries upon realizing that her enforcement of White's "perfect" standards is what drove Pink (who made her happy) away.

Steven Universe

Steven, quickly! Use one of our ships to get home.

—"Change Your Mind"
Reunited (997)

Yellow, along with Blue, looking at Steven with concern.

Upon meeting Steven in "The Trial", Yellow Diamond finds his appearance hideous. Extremely biased in the prosecution's favor, she readily accepts the evidence presented against him that he is, in fact, the Rose Quartz who shattered Pink Diamond and repeatedly attempts to persuade Blue Diamond to end the trial so he can be executed. After he flees, she sends Shattering Robonoids after him.

She encounters Steven again when she invades Earth alongside Blue Diamond during the events of "Reunited". Steven tries to reason with her, but she is instantly overcome with rage at the mere sight of him. She rushes at him and stomps down on him hard. His timely defense keeps him alive, and the attack knocks him out and causes him to enter into a psychic plane. Here he manages to make contact with Yellow and Blue, which is initially met with a hostile response. After he projects an aura only Pink Diamond could have used, the two stop their attacks. When Steven wakes up at, Yellow Diamond has a visible look of concern on her face while looking at Steven, now convinced that he is Pink.

During the episode "Legs From Here to Homeworld", Yellow Diamond demands to know why Pink deceived them for so long and why she doesn't return to her original form. Steven tries to explain how his mother's original form was sacrificed when he inherited her gem at birth. Though she doesn't fully comprehend, she understands when he tells her that he has no memories of having ever been Pink Diamond or Rose Quartz. Yellow believes that those out-of-reach memories still exist, and continue to address him as "Pink," leading to a more cordial relationship between the two. She tries to heal Nephrite when Steven requests her to do so but the attempt fails. She tells him that with White Diamond's help the corrupted gems could be healed completely, but the thought of White's reaction to Pink's past actions makes her concerned for his well-being. Yellow Diamond tells Steven that she would talk for Steven when meeting White Diamond because it's likely White Diamond in a fit of rage could bubble Steven for several thousand years. However, White's Pearl takes Steven to White Diamond alone since only "Pink Diamond" is needed.

In "Familiar", Yellow Diamond and Steven speak briefly about how to convince White Diamond to come to Earth so they can heal the corrupted Gems. Yellow states that the two and a half words Steven said to White is a new record, implying that White almost never speaks to anyone. Yellow complains to Steven that it is unfair how he gets to see White Diamond because he has one failed colony, while she has hundreds of successful ones. Steven suggests to Yellow that she should try failing which Yellow responds to by laughing hysterically. The fact that Yellow rarely smiles, let alone laughs, shows how comfortable she is around "Pink" (Steven). Steven knows that Blue and Yellow Diamond are dictators but in the song "Familiar" he acknowledges the two love him which is why he hopes to change their authoritarian ways.

When Blue frees Steven and Connie and attempts to help them return to Earth, Yellow tells her to return them to the prison tower. She also attempts to stop Steven from freeing the bubbled Crystal Gems, but fails and is attacked by Blue. Later, when Yellow attempts to poof Blue, Steven stops her and makes her realize the error of her ways, in addition to recognizing Steven as his own being. Yellow, along with Blue, later attempts to assist Steven in escaping Homeworld, but are stopped by White. After curing Corruption alongside Blue and White, she directs a "peace" sign towards Steven using her ship before leaving for Homeworld.

During the time elapsed until the events of Steven Universe: The Movie, Yellow, like Blue and White, shows that she has become very attached to Steven, asking him to live with them at Homeworld in commemoration of Pink's legacy and confirms she knows Steven is not Pink Diamond.

In "Homeworld Bound", she aids Steven when he reveals he has problems pertaining to his physical form, showing her care towards him, and is patient with him lashing out.

White Diamond

I've conquered so many worlds for the sake of the empire. I do everything you ask and I do it all perfectly. But your very high standards put us all under a lot of pressure. A Gem could crack under so much pressure. We Diamonds may be hard, but we're also brittle.

—Yellow Diamond to White Diamond in "Change Your Mind"

White Diamond is a fellow member of the Great Diamond Authority and Yellow Diamond's direct and only superior. Like Blue Diamond, Yellow Diamond seems to fear her as she states that she will do the talking for Steven when they arrive on Homeworld in order to cool off her temper. However, she is rather dismayed by White's callous demeanor and stressed at trying to match her expectations; to which the latter disregarded the hundreds of colonies she conquered for her approval. After mending her relationship with White, Yellow appears to be much happier and closer with her fellow Diamonds.

Yellow Pearl

Pearl, do something. Sing for her. Make her feel better.

—"That Will Be All"

Due to Yellow Diamond being one of the members of The Great Diamond Authority, she owns a Pearl. Yellow Pearl has a smug grin on her face when Yellow Diamond is talking to Peridot, indicating that she is proud of serving her. When Peridot insults Yellow Diamond, Yellow Pearl is visibly shocked.

Yellow Pearl carries out her duties with ostentatious enthusiasm, but also shows visible fear whenever Yellow Diamond focuses her attention directly on her or becomes emotionally agitated, indicating that she is afraid of her Diamond's wrath.

Following the start of Era 3, Yellow Pearl no longer serves Yellow Diamond due to Steven establishing new rules for the Gem Empire.

Peridot

What do you know about the Earth?!
Peridot: Apparently more than you! You... clod!

—"Message Received"
Message Received 327

Yellow Diamond yelling at Peridot.

In "The Return", when Jasper mentioned Yellow Diamond, not only did Lapis Lazuli wince, but Peridot showed fear as well. A silhouette of Yellow Diamond can also be seen alongside Jasper and Peridot in the extended theme "We Are the Crystal Gems".

In "Cry for Help", Peridot sends out a distress signal using the Communication Hub in hopes that Yellow Diamond would send help. However, in "Catch and Release", Peridot claims that she had yet to receive a response from her.

In "Message Received", Peridot is shown gushing over how 'perfect' she thinks Yellow Diamond is. Peridot states that she is very loyal towards her, as Yellow Diamond is her leader. Later in the episode, Peridot uses a Communicator that she took from the Moon Base to communicate with Yellow Diamond. Throughout their conversation, Yellow Diamond appears to be incredibly annoyed by Peridot, calling her out on what it is that she has failed to do. Peridot is able to wave this off in the hope of trying to convince her to terminate The Cluster. After Yellow Diamond refuses, Peridot insults her by calling her a clod and claiming there are things worth protecting on Earth, resulting in Yellow Diamond angrily detonating the communicator Peridot was using. Because of this, she became a traitor to her own kind, therefore making her a Crystal Gem.

They eventually meet again when Yellow and Blue come to Earth to collect the Cluster. Peridot runs up to her asking "Remember me?!", expecting her to be enraged by her mere presence. Yellow simply responds "No," before electrocuting her until she poofs.

In "Change Your Mind", however, Yellow no longer seems to have an issue with Peridot, even after seeing her again.

Jasper

And where is the Jasper I assigned you?

—"Message Received"

Jasper and Yellow Diamond's relationship is currently unknown. In "The Return", she states "Yellow Diamond needs to see this" after witnessing Steven using his mother's shield. Jasper is a member of Yellow Diamond's court, wearing the Yellow Diamond emblem on her outfit. However, in "Message Received", Yellow Diamond is shown to be more concerned with the ship Peridot and Jasper arrived in, suggesting that she views Jasper simply as "a Jasper".

There is a chance that Yellow Diamond may find Jasper significant since she sends a squadron of Rubies to retrieve her.

Upon being cured of Corruption, Jasper attempts to attack Steven under the belief that he is Rose Quartz, but is stopped when Yellow gives her an angry look, before brushing it off with a smile.

Rose Quartz

She was shattered by a Rose Quartz! The entire cut of Gem deserves the same fate!
Blue Diamond: But they were hers.
They should be wiped out of existence, not kept safe in bubbles!

—"That Will Be All"

Yellow Diamond was shown to despise all Rose Quartzes for the shattering of Pink Diamond at the hands of one of their kind. Yellow called for the shattering of every other Rose Quartz, believing that they "deserve the same fate" as their Diamond.

As of the end of "Reunited", she is now aware that Rose is actually Pink Diamond, who was never shattered in the first place.

In Steven Universe: The Movie, she refers to Steven as a "human son of a Rose", heavily implying she has come to respect Rose Quartz and her legacy.

Holly Blue Agate

Get to the point, Agate.

—"That Will Be All"

As with Blue Diamond, Holly Blue Agate holds the utmost respect and admiration for Yellow Diamond. Yellow Diamond treats Holly Blue with the same curtness and authority she uses with the many other Gems serving Homeworld.

Zircon (Defense)

They were with her, of course, they saw the whole thing!

—Yellow Diamond, "The Trial"

Yellow Diamond remains impatient throughout the trial, growing increasingly frustrated at the Defense Zircon's persistence in protecting Steven-believed-to-be-Rose-Quartz. Yellow Diamond expressed contempt for the Defense Zircon when the latter accused those in supreme authority, speculatively the Diamonds themselves, with contemplating the cover-up of Pink Diamond's shattering by such authority. Resulting from this accusation, Yellow Diamond zapped the Defense and Prosecution Zircons in anger to end the "pointless" trial.

Connie Maheswaran

If we bend the rules for her, we have to bend them for everyone!
Connie: Well, maybe you should!

—"Change Your Mind"

Connie's opinion was disregarded by Yellow Diamond as she confronted Blue Diamond to take them back to the tower, much like Blue Diamond expresses prejudice to Connie by seeing her as a "pet". Since this period, Connie has given insight supporting Steven's goals, which were enough to be considered and agreed with by Yellow and Blue even if they were to combat White Diamond to achieve these goals.

Stevonnie

Pink, you've gone too far, even for you! Stay in here and think about what you've done!

—"Together Alone"

In "Jungle Moon", Yellow Diamond's representative yells at Stevonnie and tells them to act like a Diamond. In "Together Alone", Yellow Diamond showed immense shock at Steven and Connie fusing, along with Blue Diamond. She ends up poofing Garnet, Opal, and Lemon Jade, and then throws Stevonnie into a dark room to "think about what [Pink Diamond has] done."

A mural of Yellow Diamond.

  • In the storyboards for "Message Received", Yellow Diamond's outfit has a different design. She appears to be wearing a dress instead of a coat, and her boots have diamond symbols.[4]
  • Steven Sugar recreated the scene where Yellow Diamond turns her head in "We Are the Crystal Gems".[5]
  • Yellow Diamond's design resembles that of a Thalmor Soldier from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
  • Much like Ruby and Sapphire before "Hit the Diamond", most of Yellow Diamond and Blue Diamond's main appearances have been in episodes featured in a StevenBomb.
  • Yellow Diamond's personality and abilities may be symbolical to physical abuse; physical abusers tend to be emotionally detached from their victims and frequently use force and violence to keep themselves in a position of power. This matches Yellow Diamond's cold, temperamental nature and reflects her forceful discipline of Pink and Stevonnie in "Jungle Moon" and "Together Alone" respectively. Many of Yellow Diamond's powers, such as her electrokinesis, are also meant to attack and bring pain to the physical forms of Gems, which accentuates the similarities further.
  • In Save the Light, it is revealed that Yellow Diamond gave Hessonite the Prism thousands of years before the game takes place.
  • The model sheet for the Escape Pod's flare signal calls itself a "Yellow Diamond Flare Signal".[6]
  • Pure diamond is a colorless and transparent crystal lattice formed by carbon atoms, while the coloring of yellow diamonds is caused by nitrogen impurities.
  • Yellow diamonds are associated with happiness and joy, and the color yellow is associated with friendship.[7]
    • This is ironic given Yellow Diamond's cold and closed-off personality and short temper.
  • Yellow Diamond's statement "We diamonds may be hard, but we're also brittle" is not only a reference to an actual diamond's hardness but also its tenacity (a gemstone's reactions to different types of stress), which is, in fact, brittle.
  • Alongside Pink Diamond/Steven, Yellow Diamond is the only Gem with healing properties, even being capable of a similar range (fixing gemstones and light construct bodies alike).
