DeWayne Brown

Brown is a wide-bodied big man with long arms (7-foot-plus wingspan), a nearly 9-foot standing reach, and a very broad upper body. He has big, soft hands, but isn't quite all of his listed 6-foot-9 (measured 6-foot-6.5 without shoes). Brown's conditioning is a work in progress and he doesn't have much lift inside, but he's very physical. He fights for early post position, understands angles, works to seal prior to the catch, and gets his big body on people at every opportunity. He can turn both shoulders and score with both hands when deep enough in the post, but has a lower release point.

Brown does have a soft natural touch and he wants to be able to stretch the floor, but he was very inefficient with a low-released, short-armed three (just 1-for-14 in the EYBL season) and made 59% of his free-throw attempts. He can be a little nonchalant with the ball on the perimeter, hence a very high turnover rate (1.9 per game), but shows some potential to make a high-low pass or play out of dribble-handoffs.

He has very good defensive instincts and is fully engaged on that end of the floor. Brown works to move his feet, closes out to the perimeter fairly well for his size, is physical inside yet still disciplined showing his hands to avoid fouling. He has a good sense for positioning and recorded 1.1 blocks per game despite not being a prototypical rim protector. Improved fitness should make Brow even more valuable on this end of the floor. He's an area rebounder who gobbles up balls with his long arms and soft hands, but rarely goes beyond that. He runs the floor adequately but doesn't fully stride out.
