Energy Transition Summit India
India’s pledge to become a net zero carbon emitter by 2070 has the potential to transform its rapidly growing economy into a global leader in clean energy. To seize this opportunity, the world’s most populous nation has to balance energy security for its households and businesses against the urgent need to transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy and significantly decarbonise hard-to-abate industries. Currently over 80 per cent of India’s energy needs are met by coal, oil and solid biomass, making the country the third-largest global emitter of CO₂. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid out an ambitious target to build 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030 and announced billions of dollars in subsidies to manufacture clean technology. India also wants to become a leading exporter of green hydrogen. It is estimated that the country will require at least $2.5tn in additional investment to achieve its goals.
Building on the success of the Financial Times’ Energy Transition Summit in London, the inaugural Energy Transition Summit India will bring together senior policy-makers, global investors, and leaders from the Indian and international energy, metals and manufacturing sectors. Expert-led and FT-moderated panel discussions, keynote interviews and debates will provide key insights and practical takeaways on how India can find a viable pathway to scale up renewables, decarbonise its industries, and capitalise on the global energy transition.
