Drexciya and an ocean memorial to slavery

For the Guardian, I write about how Afrofuturism including the mythos of Drexicya, are inspiring calls to memorialise the atrocities that took place in the Middle Passage, when African people were taken into slavery and sent by ship to the Americas.

At least 1.8 million people did not arrive and died or were murdered en route, and their final resting place is the Atlantic seabed. I consider how their lives can be remembered and memorialised.
