The Shibuya Incident is a major jujutsu terrorist attack orchestrated by Kenjaku that takes place in Shibuya. Executed with the goal of sealing Satoru Gojo inside Prison Realm, the Shibuya Incident takes place on October 31, 2018. The conflict spans several stages and encompasses numerous battles to decide the future of Japan.

Prologue

Geto suggests using Prison Realm to seal Satoru Gojo (Anime)

Pseudo-Geto reveals to Jogo that they can use Prison Realm to seal Satoru Gojo.

Having failed to get rid of the Six Eyes numerous times in the past, Kenjaku switched his method from ending the life of the Six Eyes user to sealing them away permanently. He began his search for Prison Realm because two users of the Six Eyes cannot appear at the same time, and killing one will just result in another appearing eventually. Kenjaku acquired Prison Realm at some point in 2012 and took over Suguru Geto's body after his death in 2017.[1]

Now "Pseudo-Geto", the curse user allies himself with Mahito's group of unregistered special grade cursed spirits. In July of 2018, Geto meets with Jogo, Hanami, and Dagon to discuss their mutual interests. Jogo expresses their group's desire to replace humanity and take their place as the true rulers of the world. He asks Geto for help defeating the jujutsu sorcerers in an all-out war. The curse user advises that they'll need to meet certain conditions to win such a war, the primary of which is taking Satoru Gojo out of the equation completely.[2]

The plan to seal Gojo on October 31st (Anime)

"On October 31, in Shibuya we need to prepare ourselves for sealing Satoru Gojo with everything we've got."

Geto suggests that together they focus on trying to seal Satoru Gojo inside the special grade cursed object: Prison Realm.[3] Jogo initially refuses and tries to kill Satoru himself in exchange for Prison Realm. Naturally, Jogo is effortlessly defeated and Geto uses this exchange to emphasize that Satoru must be sealed at the right time and place using every advantage they have. Following the battle, Geto tells Mahito and everyone else that they'll proceed on October 31st in Shibuya, to which they agree on.[4]

The alliance spends their time preparing for October bolstering their numbers by recruiting curse users like Haruta Shigemo and Juzo Kumiya. In order to prepare themselves adequately for sealing Satoru, Geto used the recruits to aid Mahito and Hanami's invasion of Jujutsu High's Goodwill Event. The goal of the invasion is to acquire several cursed objects from Jujutsu High's cursed warehouse.

Kokichi's plan to contact Satoru Gojo (Anime)

After Kokichi's contract with Mahito ends, he attempts to exorcise the curse and warn Satoru Gojo about the Shibuya plans.

Mahito successfully steals six of Sukuna's fingers and Cursed Womb: Death Paintings numbers one to three.[5]Choso, Eso, and Kechizu were successfully incarnated from the cursed wombs and added to Mahito's faction. In September, the Death Painting brothers attempt to collect more of Sukuna's fingers in preparation for Shibuya.[6]

In order to stay a step ahead of Jujutsu High while planning their scheme, Geto and Mahito forged a binding vow with one of the students, Kyoto's Kokichi Muta. Their deal is for them to heal his body with Mahito's Idle Transfiguration in exchange for Kokichi acting as their spy. He watched everything that took place over the last several months and fed Geto information that helped his cause. Geto even wanted to use Kokichi for Shibuya but their business concludes on October 19th.

Shibuya (Anime)

October 31 in Shibuya...

Kokichi feels their vow was broken when Mahito's allies attacked Kokichi's classmates during the invasion of the Goodwill Event. He demands Mahito heal him as per their agreement and afterward, they immediately come to blows and engage in a fight to the death.[7]

During Kokichi's battle with Mahito, his main objective is to contact Satoru Gojo. Kokichi wants Satoru to rescue him, so he can also use the opportunity to warn him about the Shibuya plans.[8] However, Kokichi is unsuccessful. He's unable to reach Satoru and is killed by the special grade curse. Immediately afterward, Geto regroups with Mahito and confirms they've finished putting the final touches on the plan. Just over ten days later, October 31st arrives.[9]

Early Stages

7:00 P.M. - 8:31 P.M. Shibuya (Outside the Curtain)

Civilians trapped inside curtain in Shibuya (Anime)

Civilians trapped in a barrier around Shibuya are told to demand Satoru Gojo's presence.

The Shibuya Incident begins around 7:00 PM on October 31st. A curtain with a four-hundred meter radius is cast around Shibuya. The center of the curtain is at the Tokyu Department Store. It only traps non-sorcerers, making it so civilians can enter but not exit. Sorcerers can enter and exit the curtain at will, but it depends on the person when it comes to windows. A secondary effect of the barrier doesn't allow for cellphone reception and it can't be broken by brute force, meaning dispelling the curtain is only possible by taking out its caster.

All the civilians inside the curtain are spread out around its perimeter asking for the same thing: "Bring Satoru Gojo." The advanced barrier technique and targeting Satoru points to the culprits being the same as the invaders of the Goodwill Event. The higher-ups instruct Satoru to work alone in order to suppress the Shibuya Incident and minimize any potential casualties. They also dispatch four squads of jujutsu sorcerers to safeguard the perimeter outside the curtain in case anything gets past him:[10]

8:31 P.M. - 8:51 P.M. Fukutoshin Line Platform

The Nanami Team is posted near exit 13 of Shibuya Station. The Zenin Team is located at Shibuya Mark City outside the restaurant avenue entrance. The Kusakabe Team patrols outside Jr. Shibuya Station until they decide to sit down by a railing. Kusakabe notes that he looked inside the curtain earlier and it was relatively peaceful. While the civilians are panicking because they can't escape, cursed spirits and curse users aren't anywhere to be found. Despite his assessment of the present state of Shibuya, Kusakabe adds that he wouldn't go back inside the barrier because there are a bunch of special grade cursed spirits in the basement of the Hikarie Building.

Satoru Gojo arrives in Shibuya (Anime)

Satoru Gojo arrives in Shibuya to neutralize the situation alone.

Non-sorcerers inside the curtain continue to bang their hands on the edge of the barrier and demand that someone hurry and bring Satoru Gojo. No one is sure who he is or how they even ended up being told to request his presence. While some are sure help is on the way, others are on edge after seeing dozens of others sucked into Shibuya Mark City from the outside intersection. At 8:31 PM, Satoru arrives in Shibuya and enters the curtain.

Satoru arrives at Hikarie ShinQ's at 8:38 PM where he stands on the atrium and looks over the crowd of civilians. He notices that the curtain is being cast from somewhere down below and decides to descend to the Fukutoshin Line Platform on B5F. Satoru realizes the cursed spirits are planning to ambush him down there, but he openly welcomes the challenge.

Jogo, Choso, and Hanami stand off with Satoru Gojo (Anime)

Satoru confronts Jogo, Hanami, and Choso on the subway platform on B5F.

At 8:39 PM at Aoyama Cemetery in Harajuku, Yuji expresses his desire to back up his sensei. His team not permitted to help Satoru, but rather than remain on standby at the cemetery, the Mei Mei Team is routed to Meiji-Jingumae Station, where another curtain has suddenly appeared. At 8:40 PM, Satoru descends to the subway platform on Tokyo Metro B5F of the Hikarie Building, where Jogo, Hanami, and Choso are waiting for him.[11]

Hanami's roots fill the atrium Satoru descended through, creating a blind spot. Satoru can't break it recklessly in the case of people are on the other side. He boasts that he has no reason to run anyway since the cursed spirits would kill everyone if he did. However, Jogo responds by declaring they'll murder everyone regardless. Crowds of non-sorcerers are forced onto the track around Satoru, flooding the area with bystanders that only serve to get in his way. Jogo, Hanami, and Choso cut down numerous civilians before making an attack on Satoru. The Infinity stops Jogo and Hanami from making contact with Satoru, but they came prepared for this exchange. Jogo and Hanami activate Domain Amplification, a technique shown to them by Pseudo-Geto that can be used as a countermeasure against the Infinity.

Satoru Gojo trapped in the Fukutoshin Line Platform (Anime)

Jogo, Hanami, and Choso flood the area with civilians and target them in order to throw off Satoru.

Pseudo-Geto prepared Jogo and the others for this battle by informing them that Satoru is at his strongest when he's alone. Even strong sorcerers get in Satoru's way so Geto and the others planned on using inferior non-sorcerers to restrict his movements and his ability to activate powerful cursed techniques including Domain Expansion. Geto emphasized that he needs the cursed spirits to buy him at least twenty minutes to prepare Prison Realm. In that time, Jogo and the others must force Satoru to waste time thinking about countermeasures and how to save innocent humans.

Satoru quickly figures out his opponents' game and removes his blindfold, revealing the Six Eyes. He taunts the curses for thinking any strategy could give them an advantage and confronts them directly.[12] The strongest jujutsu sorcerer fights and overwhelms Jogo and Hanami with pure taijutsu, without the use of the Limitless. He lures Hanami into deactivating his Domain Amplification and then exposes his weak point to severely weaken him. This makes it so the next time Hanami and Jogo attempt to deactivate the Infinity, Satoru simply amplifies his technique to overpower Hanami and exorcises him completely.[13]

8:51 P.M. - 9:15 P.M. Meiji-Jingumae Station

Mei Mei sharing vision with her crows (Anime)

Mei Mei's crows scout out the inside of Meiji-Jingumae Station.

At 8:51 PM in Harajuku, the Mei Mei Team arrives at Meiji-Jinguemae Station just over ten minutes after departing Aoyama Cemetery on foot. They meet with an auxiliary manager at exit 2. She debriefs them on the full extent of the situation they're expected to tackle. A second curtain has appeared with the ability to block out sorcerers from entering B5F of any of the Tokyo Metro stations. This curtain is centered at Meiji-Jinguemae Station and it is believed its caster is taking the risk of remaining outside of the barrier in order to strengthen it. Somewhere in between the curtains is the caster and a swarm of transfigured humans to back them up.[14]

Mei Mei uses her crows to scout out the inside of the Meiji-Jinguemae Station. She finds that transfigured humans are attacking trapped civilians at B4F and forcing them down to B5F. Many of her crows were taken out between B1F and B2F, meaning the caster is most likely in that area; she figures this could be due to the caster wanting to prevent civilians from escaping or is a part of the vow strengthening the barrier. Mei Mei is unsure of why B5F is chosen as the cutoff point and Yuji asks if the special grade patch face-curse might be down there.

Grasshopper Curse eating a man (Anime)

Yuji discovers a man-eating Grasshopper on B4F guarding the curtain.

Mei Mei suggests splitting up so she can rescue the civilians on B4F before they're all killed by transfigured humans. She and Ui Ui head to exit 7 and go straight down to B4F while Yuji descends through exit 2 to find the curtain's caster. Their best-case scenario is to regroup after the curtain has been lifted when the civilians are freed and the objectives of the enemy at BF5 have been discovered.

Yuji descends to B2F and discovers a grasshopper curse there devouring a man's head; the grasshopper considers himself to be "smart". Based on talking to the curse, Yuji surmises that it's unlikely that such a low intelligence creature would be able to cast a complicated barrier. The grasshopper also mentions needing to "protect" the curtain, making Yuji realize it's an item responsible for the curtain instead of a caster. He makes it his goal to break the cursed object projecting the barrier and fights Ko-Guy one-on-one.[15] The grasshopper curse believes he has a superior body to a human, however, Yuji's skill is so far ahead that he completely overcomes any natural disadvantages. The gap in skill is so wide that Yuji effortlessly exorcises the curse and breaks the stake-like cursed object to dispel the barrier.

Mahito on the next train to Shibuya (Anime)

Mahito finishes his preparations and escapes Harajuku before the sorcerers reach B5F.

Mei Mei kills a group of transfigured humans and secures the civilians on B4F. She notices the curtain lifting and tells Ui Ui they'll wait to regroup with Yuji before heading down to B5F. At the same time on BF5, Mahito gets ready to board a train going from Harajuku to Shibuya Station.[16]

Yuji meets back up with Mei Mei and Ui Ui at B4F at 9:15 PM. They head down to B5F but they find only one person who's already been transfigured. Mahito already boarded the train full of transfigured humans and is headed directly for Satoru Gojo's location.[17]

8:51 P.M. - 9:26 P.M. Fukutoshin Line Platform

Transfigured Humans released from the train (Anime)

Mahito brings a train full of transfigured humans to attack the bystanders.

After exorcising Hanami, Satoru puts Jogo on the defensive and forces him to hide amongst the crowd of civilians and rely solely on hit-and-run tactics. People who can't see curses start to avoid Satoru and their depleting numbers give Satoru a higher chance of spotting his enemies. Satoru understands he can't save everyone but he swears to exorcise the curses in return. Pseudo-Geto watches the chaos with Dagon from a safe distance away; he comments that it's still too easy for Satoru and they'll need to get him more on edge. At 9:15 PM, Mahito's train arrives on the Fukutoshin Line Platform of Shibuya Station. Frightened civilians try to escape on the newly arrived train, but unbeknownst to them it is filled with transfigured humans that attack them as the doors open.[18]

More humans fall down to B5F (Anime)

More non-sorcerers are forced down to B5F, significantly ramping up the pressure on Satoru.

Mahito regroups with Jogo and Choso while numerous transfigured humans chase after the civilians running away in a panic. Satoru doesn't understand why his adversaries would whittle down the number of non-sorcerers even further, but Mahito reveals there are plenty more to sacrifice for their cause. The atrium that was being blocked by Hanami's roots suddenly opens up and a massive crowd of people falls through it. Satoru realizes there are more curses or curse users on the upper floors of the Hikarie Building dumping everyone they can down to B5F.

Choso, Mahito, and Jogo use their cursed techniques to attack the crowd along with the transfigured humans. They understand Satoru is capable of dealing with some sacrifices, but only those killed by curses and not himself. His enemies believe this puts Satoru in a situation where he can't activate Domain Expansion at risk of harming any nearby non-sorcerers. However, Satoru proves them wrong and releases an all-or-nothing Domain Expansion of just 0.2 seconds.

Satoru Gojo killing Transfigured Humans (Anime)

The strongest jujutsu sorcerer uses an all-or-nothing Domain Expansion of 0.2 seconds to destroy a thousand transfigured humans.

Satoru guesses that 0.2 seconds is all a normal human could take inside Unlimited Void without suffering lasting after-effects. It feeds about half a year's worth of information into everyone's mind, leaving them standing unconscious. This level of Unlimited Void could allow the cursed spirits to awaken at any moment, so Satoru focuses on destroying all the transfigured humans as quickly as possible. The strongest sorcerer annihilates approximately one thousand transfigured humans in 299 seconds.

Immediately after his tremendous feat, Satoru is surprised when Prison Realm appears right next to him. Without wasting any time, Geto commands the cursed object to open.[19] Prison Realm breaks out of the paper talismans constraining it and opens up into a gate-like shape with a giant eye in the center that meets Satoru's gaze. The sorcerer instinctively moves to get away from Prison Realm but Pseudo-Geto intercepts him. This is the first time Pseudo-Geto has revealed his existence to Satoru, and he is left speechless at the sight of his former best friend's body functioning despite having killed Geto with his own hands.

Pseudo-Geto seals Satoru Gojo (Anime)

Pseudo-Geto successfully uses Prison Realm to bind Satoru.

Prior to the incident, Geto informed Jogo and the others that they would need to hold Satoru in place for one minute after Prison Realm's gate is opened. Jogo believed this to be an impossible task, but Geto only needs "one minute" of time inside of Satoru's high processing brain. Upon seeing Geto, three years of memories race through Satoru's mind, giving Prison Realm more than enough time to activate and take hold of him.

Immobilized and unable to access his cursed energy, Satoru understands this is checkmate. He demands to know who this imposter is despite the Six Eyes telling him it's Suguru Geto. The imposter takes off the top of his head and reveals a cursed brain inside. It's a technique that allows the imposter to move from body to body. He took over Geto's body after the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons. Pseudo-Geto fastens his scalp back on and tells Satoru the seal will be over in a thousand years or so, bidding him farewell until they meet again in the new world.[20]

Satoru Gojo seal complete (Anime)

Seal complete!

Around 9:26 PM, Geto commands Prison Realm to close its gate, sealing Satoru inside the cubed form of the cursed object. Right before it is closed, Satoru calls out to the real Suguru Geto, who responds by choking himself, surprising Pseudo-Geto that his soul still exists within the body, however he is ultimately able to resist it. Mahito and the others wake up from their Unlimited Void induced trance and regroup with Geto. He reveals Prison Realm can only contain one person at a time and it needs time to process someone as powerful as Satoru Gojo. In spite of this minor delay, Pseudo-Geto's plan has been successful and the seal is complete.[21]

Geto reveals they won't be able to move Prison Realm while it's processing Satoru. Their conversation is overheard by one of Mechamaru's communication devices, as the information is delivered directly to the jujutsu sorcerers. Geto and Mahito both notice the device after already revealing they can't move Prison Realm; Mahito destroys the device, but Geto acknowledges they acted a moment too late, admitting the jujutsu sorcerers got them.[22]

9:15 P.M. - 9:27 P.M. Between Meiji-Jinguemae Station & Shibuya

Mei Mei Team confronting Niji Ebina (Anime)

The Mei Mei Team facing off with Niji Ebina.

While the Mei Mei Team attempts to follow Mahito's train to Shibuya Station by walking along the tracks, Yuji is surprised when Mechamaru's communication device suddenly appears on his ear.[23]

Mechamaru relays the information that Satoru has been sealed. He explains this communication device is a contingency plan before he was killed by Mahito on October 19th. Yuji and Mei Mei are skeptical of him at first, having learned he was the traitor beforehand, but he manages to convince them he's telling the truth.

Tokyo Metro stations adjacent to Shibuya Station (Anime)

Mechamaru's plan to surround Geto's group at Shibuya Station with sorcerers from the adjacent stations.

Mechamaru reveals that there are four barriers around Shibuya now: Curtain A has two layers that trap civilians, Curtain B traps Satoru Gojo, and Curtain C forbids sorcerers from entering. Curtain C will block the Mei Mei Team from reaching Satoru if they continue along the tracks without dispelling it first. Mechamaru asks Yuji to go above around and inform all the teams on standby that Satoru has been sealed, as they need to organize a collaborative operation to rescue him.

At that moment, a curse user on their way to attack the Mei Mei Team. Mechamaru asks Mei Mei to deal with them and open a path for Yuji to head back above ground. The Mei Mei Team agrees to comply with Mechamaru's directions, and the curse user, Niji Ebina, arrives shortly afterward and engages the Mei Mei Team.[24]

9:22 PM - 10:01 PM Shibuya

Jujutsu High sorcerer teams join the Shibuya Incident (Anime)

The three teams enter the battle at the same time!

The jujutsu sorcerers on standby notice the number of people in Shibuya getting lower. Transfigured humans are attacking non-sorcerers and in response, headquarters takes the teams off standby and orders them to counter-attack. They're also informed of the simultaneous appearance of Curtains B and C. It draws suspicion that they would be activated so late after Satoru arrived, but Nanami believes Mahito's group wouldn't act without a plan. He prepares to take out the enemy responsible for the curtains and orders Ino and Megumi to prioritize rescuing civilians. At 9:22 PM, the Nanami, Zenin, and Kusakabe Teams all enter the battle at the same time.

Ijichi remains in an area of Shibuya Station that sits outside the curtain where he can still use his cellphone. He tries to coordinate the position of all the managers and asks Akari Nitta to remain outside the barrier at all times to keep communication open. However, he's suddenly stabbed in the back mid-conversation on the phone with her and collapses. Accompanied by Uraume, Haruta Shigemo cuts down Ijichi and continues on orders to hunt down all the managers.[25]

Yuji saving civilians from Transfigured Humans (Anime)

Yuji enters the curtain around Shibuya and immediately begins rescuing civilians.

At 9:27 PM, Yuji reaches the curtain around Shibuya after leaving Harajuku on foot. Mechamaru informs him that the enemy can't move Prison Realm for the time being. He devises a plan to use the subways adjacent to Shibuya Station in order to surround the enemy with squads of jujutsu sorcerers.

Upon entering the curtain, Yuji notices numerous transfigured humans attacking civilians. While running to his destination, Yuji takes the time to quickly kill all of the transfigured humans in the area and rescues all the civilians he can. He then athletically jumps atop a building with superhuman agility and screams as loud as he can that Satoru Gojo has been sealed, hoping to get the message to Nanami. The message reaches the Nanami Team and anyone else in the vicinity loud and clear. Nanami changes plans and tells the entire team they must meet up with Yuji and confirm the situation. He emphasizes that if Satoru has been truly sealed, this could mean the end of all humans in Japan.[26]

Pseudo-Geto watches over Prison Realm (Anime)

Geto remains behind to guard Prison Realm while the others go off to find Yuji Itadori.

Aware that the news of Satoru's sealing has certainly reached their enemies, Geto tells his allies that the jujutsu sorcerers will group up and try to rescue Satoru. He follows up by asking what everyone else will do while he remains behind to guard Prison Realm. Choso and Jogo disagree on whether to kill Yuji or turn him into Sukuna.[27]

Mahito decides to turn the argument between Jogo and Choso into a game: if he or Choso finds Yuji first, they'll kill him, but if Jogo finds him first, he'll force him to ingest the Sukuna fingers in their possession. Jogo believes searching for Yuji is idiotic since all the sorcerers will be headed their way anyway. Despite his misgivings, Jogo is forced to follow Choso, Dagon, and Mahito as they all leave the Fukutoshin Line Platform to split up around Shibuya Station. After the cursed spirits leave Geto's side, Mimiko and Nanako confront him. They agreed to help with the Shibuya Incident in order to have Suguru's body returned, but the imposter refuses and tells them they should've used a binding vow.

Ino, Megumi, and Yuji move out (Anime)

Yuji, Megumi, and Ino begin the operation to rescue Satoru Gojo.

At the same time, the Nanami Team finds Yuji and gets fully updated on the situation by Mechamaru. Nanami agrees attacking from nearby subway stations is a good plan, but points out that they'll need to lift the curtain preventing sorcerers from entering BF5 first. While he goes to meet with Ijichi, Nanami orders Ino to take Yuji and Megumi on a mission to dispel the curtain.

Before their mission gets started, Ino takes the time to emphasize the possible repercussions of Satoru Gojo disappearing from the world. The first issue is the Gojo Clan will fall from power and all those protected by them will become political targets of the higher-ups again. Secondly, curse users and cursed spirits deterred by Satoru's strength will make their move. If Jujutsu High is too busy with political squabbles, they will be defeated by the influx of adversaries. Yuji and Megumi confirm they understand the severity of their assignment. Ino confidently declares they'll have the curtain lifted before Nanami returns and they'll rescue Satoru no matter what.[28]

Rising Stages

10:01 P.M. - 10:04 P.M. Shibuya C Tower

Awasaka overlooking Shibuya (Anime)

Awasaka and the curse users guarding the curtain on Shibuya Tower.

Ino, Yuji, and Megumi reach the curtain blocking out sorcerers. Attempting to force their way has no effect on the extremely sturdy barrier. Yuji is unable to break through it with brute force, even with a punch at full strength. While his Divine Dog: Totality helps save civilians from transfigured humans, Megumi suggests finding a weak point in the curtain. Ino says that won't be possible without getting inside the curtain first. Yuji questions Ino's line of thinking while also fighting off transfigured humans to help save innocent bystanders.

Based on the basic fundamentals of barrier techniques, Ino believes the caster will be inside the curtain. Yuji informs him of how the curtain worked in Harajuku, and with this information, they accurately surmise that the curtain's caster is probably in the most obvious spot nearby. This would give them the greatest amount of payoff in return for the increased risk of being discovered.

Yuji drops Awasaka off Shibuya Tower (Anime)

Yuji and Nue drag Awasaka off Shibuya Tower.

The curse users Awasaka, Granny Ogami, and her grandson are posted on top of Shibuya C Tower. Awasaka and Ogami's grandson agree the skyscraper overlooking the entire city is the most obvious spot in Shibuya inside of the curtain. They expect a response from enemy jujutsu sorcerers but the inside of tower is filled with transfigured humans to keep them at bay.

Yuji and Ino completely take the curse users off guard by suddenly flying up behind them by riding on the Megumi's shikigami, Nue. Nue also allowed them to fly right to the roof without being slowed down by the transfigured humans. Yuji uses some wrist wires he got from Maki to bind the curse users, but Ogami and her grandson slip out of the way. Awasaka is flung clean off the tower and falls dozens of stories to the ground below.

Kaichi following Ogami (Anime)

Ogami's grandson protecting her while she performs a long incantation.

Before they attacked, Yuji informed Ino and Megumi about commissioned curtains. These curtains are imbued with barrier techniques that only need to be charged with cursed energy and protected once they're activated. Ino finds one stake-shaped cursed object sticking out of the ground and breaks it. However, he notices that there were originally three there. Two were distractions and only one maintains the curtain. Just before Awasaka is thrown off the side of the tower, Ino notices the other two curtains in his hand.

While Yuji and Megumi deal with Awasaka on the ground, Ino fights Ogami and her grandson atop the roof.[29] Determined to impress Nanami by fulfilling the role given to him, Ino uses his Auspicious Beasts Summon to go on the offensive. Down below on the highway, Yuji and Megumi pummel Awasaka. However, no matter how much they beat on him, the old man doesn't suffer any significant damage. Meanwhile, Ino quickly realizes the young man is sacrificing his body to protect Granny Ogami from the Auspicious Beasts. This gives Ogami enough time to complete her incantation and activate her Séance Technique, shapeshifting her grandson into Toji Fushiguro.[30]

Yuji and Megumi attacking Awasaka (Anime)

Yuji and Megumi countering Awasaka's Inverse with a mix of strong and weak blows.

Awasaka and Ogami associated themselves with Pseudo-Geto because the birth of Satoru Gojo ruined the prime of their lives. They used to live as curse users who could do as they pleased to make money. Desiring to reclaim this lifestyle by getting rid of Satoru, Awasaka fights with the determination to retain the prime of his life. Yuji and Megumi continue to struggle with Awasaka's cursed technique, which is somehow nullifying the impact of their strikes. Judging off of Awasaka's reaction to Rabbit Escape and verbal confirmation that he cannot defeat someone like Satoru, Megumi is able to deduce how his cursed technique functions.[31]

While Toji makes short work of Ino, Yuji and Megumi figure out how to counter Awasaka's "Inverse" cursed technique, by creating openings by relentlessly barraging the old man with a mix of strong and weak attacks that he's forced to invert at the same time. Yuji changes the force of his punch at the last moment in order to fool Awasaka, dealing a devastating blow that incapacitates the curse user.[32]

Toji punches Ino (Anime)

Granny Ogami seances Toji Zenin, who effortlessly beats Ino to a pulp.

Megumi and Yuji break the two curtains, dispelling the barrier to complete their assignment from Nanami. Before they're able to regroup with Ino, his body is flung from the top of the tower. Megumi catches Ino before he plummets to his death, deciding to forgo regrouping with Nanami and splits up with Yuji so he can get Ino to Shoko for immediate medical treatment.

On the top of the tower, Ogami asks her grandson to continue killing jujutsu sorcerers throughout Shibuya. However, Toji's personality overwrites his vessel and he quickly turns on Ogami. She always makes sure not to summon the soul's information in case of situations like this, but Toji's body is special. He ironically follows her command to kill sorcerers and murders Ogami with a single strike.[33]

9:27 P.M. - 10:02 P.M. Between Meiji-Jinguemae and Shibuya Station

Just earlier than around 9:27 PM, Mei Mei created the opening for Yuji to escape above ground and engaged Niji Ebina in combat. Since then, she has easily overwhelmed him and severely injured the cursed spirit in his possession. Ebina attempts to surrender and talk his way into escaping. However, Mei Mei doesn't see any value in his service potential and she cuts him down without a second thought. Geto notices the curse user's quick defeat from down the Fukutoshin Line in Shibuya, and is amused by Mei Mei's display of power.[34]

9:22 P.M. - 9:40 P.M. Shibuya Station

Maki dealing with transfigured humans (Anime)

The Zenin Team dealing with transfigured humans attacking people inside the station.

Sometime after 9:22 PM, the Zenin Team enters the curtain. They fight to suppress the aggressive transfigured human presence and rescue civilians in Shibuya Station.

Akari informs Nobara that it sounded as if Ijichi was attacked while they were on the phone. This occurred after he split up with the Nanami Team so Nobara understands this could be a serious problem. Without cellphone reception, the assistant managers are critical to the jujutsu sorcerers' success. Maki listens to Nobara while slicing apart transfigured humans, telling her to take Akari and check up on Ijichi.

The Zenin Team was inside during Yuji's yelling, so they didn't hear what happened to Satoru yet. Maki starts to feel off about the situation nonetheless, saying that she'll deal with the transfigured humans alone since old man Naobito has no interest in helping non-sorcerers; Naobito meanwhile sits idly by drinking alcohol while numerous people are in danger. Maki feels more comfortable telling Nobara and Akari to go back outside the curtain in case they need to escape anyway.[35]

9:40 P.M. - 10:10 P.M. Shibuya (Outside the Curtain)

Nanami finds Ijichi bleeding out (Anime)

Nanami finds Ijichi bleeding out on the ground.

Nobara and Akari run through Shoto Bunkamura Street on route to exit 13 when they're suddenly impeded by Haruta Shigemo. The curse user has cut down several male managers and is happy to finally run into some girls. Nobara tells Akari to hide and expresses that she's confident this fight will end quickly.[36]

At 9:44 PM, Nanami re-enters Shibuya Station near exit 13 outside the curtain. He finds Ijichi on the same bridge they were on originally. Much to Nanami's displeasure and surprise, Ijichi has been stabbed and is laying in a pool of his own blood.[37] Nanami tries not to be frustrated by his own inabilities, but finding Ijichi in a near-death situation infuriates him.[38] He takes Ijichi straight to Shoko for medical treatment and then moves to regroup with another group of sorcerers.

Shigemo's sword punches Nobara (Anime)

Nobara struggles as Shigemo lands one precise hit on her.

At the same time on Bunkamura Street, Nobara asks Akari to pretend like she's hiding in Bunkamura station while actually escaping through Tokyu. She quickly deduces that Shigemo was the one who attacked Ijichi and that he's targeting managers. Akari follows instructions and runs into the subway, asking her partner not to overwork herself before leaving while Nobara engages the curse user in combat. Nobara believes Shigemo is a mid-ranged fighter who heavily relies on a cursed tool. However, this results in Nobara heavily underestimating her opponent.

Shigemo cuts Akari (Anime)

Shigemo gets past Nobara and continues to target managers like Akari.

Shigemo's cursed tool has more functions than it would initially appear. The curse user's sword independently tracks Akari and injures her to prevent the manager from escaping. This happens all while Shigemo is able to avoid the girl's attacks at close range. Once Akari is hurt, Shigemo runs into Bunkamura Station and attacks her himself. Nobara tries to fight and protect her friend, but Shigemo lands several precise blows that stagger the first-year sorcerer.

Before the situation gets any worse for Nobara and Akari, Nanami tracks the bodies of several managers to the skirmish inside Bunkamura Station.[39] As Nanami approaches him, Shigemo threatens to use the young female manager as his hostage. However, Akari used the time brought by Nobara and the following distraction to get away from the curse user by crawling up a set of escalators behind him.

Nanami interrogates Shigemo (Anime)

Nanami steps in for the girls to avenge Ijichi.

Nanami stops Shigemo from pursuing Akari by appearing directly in front of him and the curse user attacks him instead. Nanami is unfazed by any of Shigemo's attacks and interrogates him about his number of allies and their location. When Shigemo initially refuses to answer, Nanami beats him to within an inch of his life. Nobara watches in awe of a true grade 1 sorcerer's ability and supports him by stopping Shigemo's sword from interfering.

Battered and desperate, Shigemo admits he doesn't know any useful information regarding the other curse users. With that, Nanami simply asks him if he's responsible for harming Ijichi and all the other managers that were either injured or killed. When Shigemo can only weep and apologize, Nanami finishes the curse user off by smashing him clean through a subway wall.

Transfigured Humans still attacking people in Shibuya (Anime)

More transfigured humans attacking civilians in Shibuya.

Nanami takes Nobara to regroup with Akari and treat the manager's wounds.[40] He tells them that he was able to get Ijichi to Shoko and emphasizes that Ijichi's toughness can be traced back to his original aspirations to become a sorcerer. Nanami also informs them about the situation surrounding Satoru's sealing and asks them to remain on standby until they can be escorted out of the city. He plans on regrouping with the Zenin Team at Shibuya Station and head down to B5F to rescue Satoru. Nobara wants to join him, but Nanami expresses that only grade 1 sorcerers will be able to handle the upcoming fights as the Shibuya Incident continues to rapidly escalate.[41]

Meanwhile, Yuji runs down the metropolitan expressway towards Shibuya Station and notices more transfigured humans attacking civilians. There's a large amount of them and Yuji is so close to the station he can see right across the road. He's unsure of what to do in this case, but fortunately, Toge Inumaki arrives and uses his cursed speech to immobilize all the transfigured humans. This allows Yuji to pass and enter Shibuya Station at 10:10 PM where Choso is waiting for him.[42]

10:10 P.M. - 10:51 P.M Shibuya Station

Smallpox Deity Domain Expansion (Anime)

Pseudo-Geto's special grade disease curse traps Mei Mei and Ui Ui inside its domain.

Pseudo-Geto intercepts Mei Mei and Ui Ui on the underground Fukutoshin Line. He acts as if they've been reunited but Mei Mei is able to deduce this Geto is an imposter of Suguru. The curse manipulator summons the special grade disease curse, Smallpox Deity, to face Mei Mei while he waits by the rails. He challenges her to defeat it and says he'll be her last roadblock to Prison Realm if she succeeds.

The disease curse immediately activates its domain expansion, capturing Mei Mei and Ui Ui inside. Forced to follow the rules of the domain, Mei Mei is automatically caught in a coffin and buried in a gravestone. Before the Smallpox Deity reaches the count of three to finish her, Mei Mei breaks out of the gravestone and admits it's been a while since her life has been in danger.[43]

Choso using Piercing Blood on Yuji (Anime)

Yuji is immediately attacked by Choso upon entering Shibuya Station.

Yuji enters Shibuya Station at 10:10 P.M. and happens upon Choso after descending a flight of stairs toward the Fukutoshin Line. Choso immediately attacks him using Piercing Blood at blinding speed. Yuji isn't able to block it completely, but he gets out of the way and avoids major damage. After Yuji manages to get in close and land Divergent Fist on Choso's guard, the Death Painting asks if his younger brothers had any last words.[44]

Yuji admits Eso and Kechizu didn't say anything in their last moments. However, he also reveals the two of them did cry for one another before they died. This revelation instantly incites Choso's rage as he asks his younger brothers to watch him take revenge for them.[45]

Meanwhile, Mei Mei suffers a few more blows at the hands of the disease curse's domain. This helps her deduce how the domain works and formulates a risky plan to counter it. In order to be properly prepared for Geto, Mei Mei can't afford to be injured. Ui Ui gets the Smallpox Deity's attention and uses Simple Domain to avoid getting hit by the gravestone. With the cursed spirit's attention off her, Mei Mei capitalizes and exorcises it using her signature move: Bird Strike!

Mei Mei using Bird Strike (Anime)

Mei Mei exorcises the Smallpox Deity.

Once the special grade disease curse is destroyed completely, Mei Mei calls out the curse manipulator and calls dozens of crows underground to her side to fight him. Impressed, Geto brings a floating serpent curse along with him and admits she's not bad for a jujutsu sorcerer of the current era.[46]

Aboveground, Yuji realizes he has to do something about Choso's Piercing Blood attack. He manages to avoid the blitzing fast blood beam and tries to turn steer the fight into close quarters. However, Piercing Blood is just one move in Choso's arsenal of Blood Manipulation techniques. Other cursed techniques such as Supernova, Blood Edge, and Flowing Red Scale allow Choso to keep the upper hand, forcing Yuji to acknowledge that he's unfortunately run into a powerful opponent. Before Choso unleashes another consecutive blood manipulation technique, Yuji notices Mechamaru's familiar voice return to his communication device.[47]

Water stops Choso from controlling blood outside his body (Anime)

Mechamaru's plan uses water to stop Choso from manipulating blood outside his body.

Mechamaru had other people he needed to communicate with as a part of his contingency plan and had gone silent for a while. Now back advising Yuji, Mechamaru informs the first-year that the Kamo Family's Blood Manipulation has no known public weaknesses. Regardless of this, Mechamaru does formulate a risky plan with a low success rate that just might give Yuji a fighting chance. Yuji retreats to the bathroom and leads Choso inside where he has all the water running from every stall and sink. With water spraying everywhere in the enclosed space, the osmotic pressure of the water forces blood to dissolve at a cellular level, making it so that Choso is unable to control blood outside his body.

Now fighting on an even playing field, Yuji welcomes Choso to his turf. The sorcerer is finally able to engage Choso in a contest of hand-to-hand combat without the use of cursed techniques. He's able to quickly gain an edge over Choso in taijutsu, but this is short-lived. The Death Painting secured some blood kept in his left hand and ensured it wasn't permeated by the water. By hardening it and flicking it into Yuji's torso, Choso manages to pierce his opponent's liver.[48]

Choso defeats Yuji (Anime)

Despite a valiant effort in a very close fight, Yuji is defeated by Choso.

Yuji can quickly feel that he's been hit in a vital organ. After briefly panicking, Yuji regains his cool and converts his fear into cursed energy. Unafraid of death, Yuji embraces his role and accepts he might die taking down Choso, but he's okay with this as long as Satoru is saved in the end. Choso has only been hit three clean times but Yuji, but has still suffered extensive damage. Determining Yuji is a more severe threat than possibly developing onset thrombosis, Choso hardens the blood inside his lead arm.

The two fighters engage in one final exchange of blows. Once again Yuji is able to gain the upper hand over Choso in close quarters combat. Just as he has Choso staged, Yuji is unable to capitalize. His follow-up strike has no impact at all because Choso predicted where Yuji would strike and hardened that piece of his body with blood as well. Choso quickly counter-attacks, crushing Yuji with two consecutive blows that send the first-year crashing into the bathroom wall so ferociously it cracks from the impact.

Mimiko and Nanako find Yuji (Anime)

Mimiko and Nanako find Yuji unconscious and prepare to feed him one of Sukuna's fingers.

Victorious, Choso prepares to finish Yuji off and get proper revenge for his brothers. However, in that moment, a sudden memory is born inside Choso's brain of a past even that never happened.[49] Sukuna looks on, disappointed with Yuji's performance, but is surprised as he watches Yuji is ultimately spared by his opponent. Choso's head throbs with a memory of him sitting beside Yuji, Eso, Kecuhizu and all six of his other brothers. The Death Painting can't make sense of why Yuji is calling him big brother in this sequence and stumbles away from his opponent's battered body.

Dagon vomits bones (Anime)

Naobito hits Dagon so hard he vomits the bones of his victims.

Once Choso is gone, the sisters Hanako and Mimiko suddenly appear from hiding to execute their next move. They check to make sure Yuji is still alive and take advantage the situation. The girls prepare to begin by revealing one of Sukuna's fingers in their possession.[50]

Elsewhere, Nanami meets up with Naobito and Maki inside the Avenue gate of Shibuya Station and heads down the Inokashira Line towards B5F. He informs them that Satoru has been sealed by an imposter of Geto. As head of the Zenin Family, Naobito wouldn't mind seeing the decline of the rival Gojo Family, and Maki says he should go home if he's not going to help save Satoru. Naobito argues she's the one who needs to leave and believes Nanami will agree with him, which Nanami actually does because he believes that only grade 1 sorcerers should continue fighting and is concerned for the girl's safety. Maki makes the point that she's more useful than a drunk Naobito, concerning the ex-salaryman.

Dagon evolves (Anime)

Enraged by Hanami's death, Dagon ascends from the level of a cursed womb.

As the team of sorcerers reaches the end of a stairway, they happen upon Dagon in the corridor who is hiding behind a support pillar. Nanami tells Maki he'll handle it, but before he can act, Naobito already has Dagon trapped inside a picture frame. After taunting his allies for being too slow, Naobito punches Dagon out of the frame and the impact sends the curse crashing across the room. It all happens too fast for Nanami and Maki to follow. Nanami is able to recognize this is due to a cursed technique but is still surprised by the unprecedented level of speed exerted. Dagon is severely injured by Naobito's attack and vomits numerous bones that belong to deceased non-sorcerers the curse devoured. Injured with no hope of victory, Dagon begins to cry out loud for help, calling out to each of his allies by name, and quickly realizing that Hanami has died, becoming enraged by the demise of his friend. The cursed spirit completely transforms from a small octopus-like creature to a much more intimidating humanoid-shaped sea monster. Naobito realizes that Dagon was simply a cursed womb before awakening to this new level of power.[51]

Naobito and Nanami fighting Dagon (Anime)

The sorcerers trying to break through Dagon's sturdy defenses.

In his new awakened form, Dagon summons a torrent of water to flood the immediate area of the subway station. Fortunately, the fight is taking place above ground so the floor doesn't flood all the way. Able to avoid the water, the jujutsu sorcerers engage Dagon and are able to land one solid hit after another, but it's almost as if Dagon has boundless health.

On Naobito's command, the trio powers through Dagon's defenses using extreme speed and precision. Forced on the defensive, Dagon attempts to get some space, but Naobito is far too fast and knocks the cursed spirit across the room repeatedly. Naobito predicts Dagon trying to activate Domain Expansion with a hand sign and crushes the cursed spirit's fingers with rapid-fire punches. However, Dagon is still able to cast his domain using an insignia formed on the surface of his lower torso.[52]

Dagon activates Domain Expansion (Anime)

Naobito fails to stop Dagon from casting domain expansion.

Inside the tropical domain that is Horizon of the Captivating Skandha, Dagon's opponents suffer from his cant-miss attack. His man-eating fish shikigami bite small chunks out of the Nanami and Maki's bodies. It's unavoidable because the shikigami don't manifest into existence until the exact moment they hit their target. Unlike the other two, Naobito is able to defend himself using Falling Blossom Emotion. Seeing that Naobito is different, Dagon counters by unleashing Technique Release: Death Swarm. Unleashing an endless stream of shikigami to overwhelm all his targets at once, Dagon is free to focus on piercing Naobito's defenses and ensures the old sorcerer falls victim to Death Swarm as well.

The majority of Death Swarm is focused away from Maki, making it so only a few fish have hit her. Dagon states that Maki is the weakest there and prepares to finish her before Megumi's Chimera Shadow Garden suddenly bursts through the base of Dagon's domain. Megumi arrives to aid the jujutsu sorcerers and gifts Maki the special grade cursed tool: Playful Cloud![53]

Dagon punches Naobito (Anime)

Dagon overpowers the sorcerers inside his domain.

Megumi engages Dagon in a domain tug-of-war that nullifies the cursed spirit's can't-miss attacks. While Maki fights Dagon with Playful Cloud, Noabito and Nanami reveal that they survived Death Swarm for over a minute. Down one arm, Naobito helps Maki engage Dagon while Nanami protects Megumi from the man-eating fish shikigami. This buys Megumi enough time to create a hole in the domain's barrier, creating an escape route for all the jujutsu sorcerers to get away. However, just when everyone is about to escape, Toji Fushiguro suddenly enters the domain.[54]

Toji stabs Dagon through the head (Anime)

Toji enters the domain and makes short work of Dagon.

Due to the multiple irregular circumstances that allowed Granny Ogami's seance technique to run rampant, Toji's psyche devolves into a puppet of carnage, bearing his fangs towards the strongest potential adversary around. He forcefully takes Playful Cloud from Maki and quickly overpowers Dagon with pure physicality and innate fighting prowess.

Toji shreds through all Dagon's strongest shikigami before pummeling the special grade until he's bloody and close to defeat. While Toji sharpens Playful Cloud to a point, Dagon attempts to buy time to regain control over the domain and his can't-miss attacks. Noabito stops Dagon from getting away, allowing Toji to stab the cursed spirit through the face with Playful Cloud.[55]

Jogo feeds Yuji ten fingers (Anime)

Jogo feeds Yuji ten fingers in his possession to awaken Sukuna.

Toji repeatedly stabs Dagon at extreme speed until the special grade is exorcised completely. The domain dissipates and Toji takes Megumi outside to the street through a glass window. Before Maki can follow Megumi, Jogo abruptly appears and mourns Dagon's death. Jogo acts quickly and avenges his ally by setting Maki, Nanami, and Naobito ablaze one after the other. Before he can end the trio for good, Jogo notices Sukuna's cursed energy being released somewhere in Shibuya.

Sukuna demands Jogo let go of him (Anime)

Sukuna takes control of Yuji's body.

Mimiko and Nanako feed Yuji's unconscious body the finger of Sukuna's in their possession and Jogo catches them in the act shortly after. They're able to escape Jogo's wrath using Nanako's cursed technique, leaving the cursed spirit alone with Yuji's still unconscious body. Jogo notices Sukuna's markings still present on Yuji's face and decides it's now or never to feed the vessel all ten of Sukuna's fingers in his possession.[56]

Jogo's act has put Yuji at having consumed fifteen fingers in total. While Jogo is still holding Yuji up, he notices Mimiko and Nanako didn't escape very far away. Sukuna then awakens and demands Jogo get away from him immediately, severing the hand holding Yuji's face. Sukuna's overwhelmingly evil presence demands that Jogo, Mimiko, and Nanako bow before him.

Sukuna kills Mimiko (Anime)

Mimiko and Nanako incur Sukuna's wrath.

Sukuna decides to give the two girls one finger's worth of time to hear them out. They beg him to kill Pseudo-Geto but he's displeased with them using their time to order him around, so he brutally murders Mimiko and then Nanako shortly after before she can retaliate and avenge her twin sister.

Sukuna moves on to asking Jogo what he wants and is surprised to learn that his group simply wants to see Sukuna revived. Jogo tells Sukuna to use Yuji's friends as leverage to make a Binding Vow to permanently take over the vessel. However, Sukuna claims this isn't necessary and reveals that he has his own plans. Amused with Jogo, Sukuna offers him a challenge as a token of appreciation for ten fingers: if Jogo can land a single hit on Sukuna in a fight, the King of Curses will cooperate with his group and kill every human in Shibuya, all except for one.[57]

10:51 P.M - 11:14 P.M Outside Shibuya Station

Toji attacks Megumi through Rabbit Escape (Anime)

Megumi feels Sukuna's presence and flees from Toji using Rabbit Escape.

Just outside the station, Megumi faces Toji alone on the street. He tries to visualize winning against an impossibly powerful opponent, but his focus is suddenly shaken. Both Fushiguros are taken by surprise when Sukuna's presence echoes throughout Shibuya. Megumi tries to use Rabbit Escape to buy time for self-composure, but this is short-lived. Toji instinctively charges into the horde of rabbits and stabs forward with his improvised spear. Megumi is able to avoid Toji's attack and continues to create distance.

At 10:51 PM along the Shibuya Line of the Metropolitan Expressway, Shoko and Yaga converse inside the tent they have set up on the tollgate. The tent is a makeshift medical station to treat injured sorcerers, with Shoko already managing to save the lives of Ino and Ijichi, and Yaga there to protect her in case the enemy learns she's in Shibuya.

Toji kills himself to save Megumi (Anime)

Unbeknownst to Megumi, Toji takes his own life to rescue his son.

On the other hand, Shoko's presence in Shibuya gives Megumi insurance. He knows his sole advantage is that he can be healed and decides to take a direct hit from his opponent. Using his shadow to divert the strike, Megumi is able to avoid a fatal wound. He tries to counter-attack at point-blank range, but Toji is immensely fast and completely avoids the hit, leaving the young student with no options left.

Toji takes a solid look at Megumi's face and recalls the day he agreed to sell him to the Zenin Family. Toji believes Megumi has a lot more potential to thrive in a sorcerer family than himself. He asks Megumi's name and the young man answers "Fushiguro". Proud he chose Fushiguro over Zenin, Toji tells Megumi that's good for him and commits suicide. Toji stabs his own head with Playful Cloud to save his son, all unbeknownst to Megumi, who watches in shock.[58]

Megumi attacked by Shigemo (Anime)

Megumi is surprise attacked and slashed from behind by Shigemo.

Ogami's grandson's body reverts back to normal and Megumi notes that Toji's face disappeared completely. Megumi considers himself lucky but still can't make sense of why his opponent suddenly killed himself. While holding the flesh wound in his side, Megumi begins to walk toward where Shoko is posted until he decides that he should check on the Zenin Team first. However, Megumi is suddenly slashed in the back by Haruta Shigemo's bladed cursed tool. As Megumi collapses to the ground, Shigemo expresses that he's much more suited to sneak attacks instead of head-to-head collisions.[59]

At 11:01 PM in front of Shibuya Stream, the Kusakabe Team is still patrolling and checking buildings for civilians. They've already come across Toge and confirmed Satoru's sealing; he informed them that most non-sorcerers are safe. Panda wants to go after Satoru but he doesn't know where Fukutoshin Line B5F is or how to get there, his instincts as a Panda leave him without any sense of direction.

Jogo and Sukuna's fight interrupts Negi (Anime)

A massive explosion interrupts the confrontation between the curse users and the Kusakabe Team.

When Panda asks his teacher to stop checking buildings to go find Satoru, Kuksakabe claims Satoru isn't the only person that matters and they need to leave no stone unturned. However these are all just excuses Panda doesn't catch on to, Kusakabe doesn't want to go down to B5F because he believes he'll die for sure. Panda's nose gets sharper as fewer people are around, running the risk of discovering B5F on his own, and Kusakabe doesn't desire this option either because he'd rather not be alone in Shibuya.

Panda doesn't realize that the Fukutoshin Line is right around the corner from where they are and would take no time at all to get there. Kusakabe decides to buy time by entering the station from the Shin-Minami entrance and pretending to get lost on their way to find Satoru. Before the Kusakabe Team can enter Shibuya Station, they're abruptly confronted by two curse users who used to be aligned with Suguru Geto: Toshihisa Negi and Manami Suda. Kusakabe and Panda also notice at least three more curse users hiding behind them as well.

Sukuna interrupts Kusakabe (Anime)

Kusakabe tries to tell the sorcerers to run but Sukuna interrupts him.

Toshihisa Negi asks if the two are Jujutsu High sorcerers and then tells them to surrender because he'd rather not kill one of his own kind. Kusakabe subtly refuses to any terms of surrender and instead asks the curse users to tell their story in the most drawn-out way possible. Negi simply expresses that they've inherited Suguru Geto's will and Manami asks again if Kusakabe will surrender. Kusakabe is disappointed they didn't waste very much time, but he isn't intimidated by curse users of this level either. He decides the best way to play this is by taking his sweet time fighting against these curse users instead of risking happening upon any special grades.

Kusakabe activates Evening Moon Sword Drawing, signaling to Negi that the decision to fight has been made. However, Kusakabe's plan goes up in flames when a nearby explosion erupts behind the curse users. Sukuna knocks Jogo out of that building with explosive force and asks the cursed spirit if that's all the fight he's got.[60] Jogo tries to fight back but is knocked across the area by Sukuna, destroying several more buildings with their highly destructive clashing. This struggle eventually forces Jogo to activate his most powerful cursed technique, Maximum: Meteor!

Sukuna's fire arrow (Anime)

Sukuna challenges Jogo to a fire-power battle.

Kusakabe sees the two special grades fighting and attempts to flee with Panda. Two of the curse users hiding intercept them and Manami tries to make them realize they don't have time to fight. Before she can even finish her sentence, Kusakabe cuts down both curse users with Batto Sword Drawing. He tries to tell the other curse users to run because they're all just ants to the special grade cursed spirits fighting nearby. Sukuna overhears the commotion and suddenly appears next to Kusakabe. He tells anyone in the vicinity that they will die if they move until given permission to do so.

The King of Curses forces all of them to watch as Maximum: Meteor draws closer and closer. It's only until just before the meteor makes impact that Sukuna finally allows them all to run. Maximum Meteor crashes into the ground moments later, destroying a large portion of the city and likely getting everyone caught up in the explosion. Jogo is confident that his maximum technique must've damaged his adversary but Sukuna managed to avoid it altogether. Amused regardless, Sukuna decides to utilize a cursed technique that conjures flames, confusing Jogo. Sukuna realizes that a cursed spirit wouldn't quite understand how he's performing this technique and simply challenges Jogo to a fire-power battle.[61]

Jogo's demise (Anime)

Sukuna sends Jogo off in a blaze of glory.

The outcome of the highly chaotic battle is settled with a single exchange of destructive flames. Sukuna is victorious, reducing Jogo to ash. Before Jogo's demise, Sukuna meets him inside his innate domain and commended him on his strength, drawing tears from the dying cursed spirit's eye. After Jogo's body crumbles away, Uraume finds Sukuna, surprising him, recognizing them from his past.[62]

At 11:05 PM in the Dogenzaka area in front of Shibuya 109, Shigemo stalks his injured victim as Megumi as walks away and manages to maintain some distance. This doesn't last long and Megumi collapses while divulging how the Shadows Technique functions. The curse user doesn't think anything of Megumi's explanation at first but the Ten Shadows Technique user unveils his last-ditch plan. Megumi forces Shigemo to take part in an exorcism ritual where they must try and defeat the most powerful shikigami of the Ten Shadows Technique: the Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga.

Megumi summons Mahoraga (Anime)

Megumi forces Shigemo into an exorcism ritual involving the unstoppable Mahoraga.

At 11:07 PM, Mahoraga takes out Megumi with a single strike, leaving him in a state of suspended death. This leaves Shigemo alone to contend with the unbeatable monster. Sukuna takes notice of Megumi's fading life force and tells Uraume he has to go. He orders Uraume not to neglect their preparations and claims he'll be completely free very soon.

Just before Shigemo is killed by Mahoraga, Sukuna saves him and avoids the end of the exorcism ritual. Sukuna is able to immediately read and understand the situation; if Shigemo were to die, the ritual would conclude and Megumi's suspended state of death would've become permanent. Sukuna heals Megumi with a reverse cursed technique and surmises the only way to void the ritual is to defeat Mahoraga.[63]

Sukuna shooting flames at Mahoraga (Anime)

Sukuna destroys Mahoraga before it can adapt.

Sukuna is able to gain an early advantage until Mahoraga adapts to his slashing techniques. Their exchanges help Sukuna learn exactly how Mahoraga's cursed technique works. After suffering a hit from Sukuna's techniques, the wheel on its head turns and all the damage disappears. Additionally, Mahoraga will be unaffected by that same attack the next time it's used. Sukuna counters by activating his Domain Expansion: Malevolent Shrine![64]

Malevolent Shrine is customized by Sukuna to destroy everything within a 140-meter radius. This kills numerous non-sorcerers who were hiding after meeting Toge. It also slashes Mahoraga relentlessly along with a large portion of the city. Before Mahoraga can regenerate, Sukuna finishes off the shikigami with the same flaming arrow technique he used to exorcise Jogo.

Shibuya after Sukuna's rampage (Anime)

Yuji witnesses the aftermath of Sukuna's decimation of Shibuya.

Once the ritual is officially over, Shigemo attempts to flee scene after Sukuna demands the curse user to get out of his presence and dies from a delayed reaction from being hit by Malevolent Shrine. Before losing control of his vessel to Yuji, Sukuna drops off Megumi to Shoko. He only appears for a second and Yaga can barely make out who it was.[65]

Sukuna returns to the area in front of Shibuya 109 that he completely decimated. He tells Yuji to take a good look and releases control. Once Yuji regains control of his body and immediately recalls everyone who died and his allies who were put in danger, he's horrified by Sukuna's actions and begins to vomit while panicking and telling himself to die. After a few moments of reeling from the traumatic experience, Yuji enters a state of cold focus, realizing that he has to fight and help people or else he's nothing but a murderer.[66]

Climactic Stages

11:14 P.M. - 11:36 P.M. Shibuya Station

Mahito and Nanami meet again (Anime)

Mahito corners Nanami after the injured sorcerer repels a swarm of transfigured humans.

Nanami managed to survive Jogo's assault but he is heavily injured. With over half his body charred and one of his eyes missing, Nanami walks through Shibuya Station while still very delirious. Nanami ignores his exhaustion and rather than seek to be healed, he searches for Megumi. He doesn't realize Megumi was taken outside and also doesn't recall what happened to Naobito and Maki.

Mahito notices the dazed sorcerer walking by while hiding inside a photo booth. Nanami descends a flight of stairs and encounters a large swarm of transfigured humans. Despite the seriousness of his condition, Nanami slashes through the crowd in an adrenaline-fueled rage and kills every last one of them.

Kento Nanami's death (Anime)

Mahito kills Nanami in front of Yuji.

With the pawns out of the way, Mahito makes contact with the sorcerer's chest using his palm. Unsure of why he decided to return to sorcery at all, Nanami asks Haibara for answers. Haibara's spirit points Nanami to Yuji as he enters the station. Nanami tells Yuji that he's got it from here and his upper body is destroyed as a result of Idle Transfiguration. Mahito takes pleasure in the timing of executing Yuji's friend right in front of him. Enraged by the death of his mentor, Yuji rushes Mahito and screams at him. Entertained, Mahito taunts him by claiming that he can hear the sorcerer just fine without yelling.[67]

Yuji and Mahito come to blows once again, clashing throughout the station. Mahito keeps the sorcerer at bay using cursed techniques based around manipulating transfigured humans. Not only do they clash in a physical confrontation, but they collide over ideals and convictions. Mahito believes he and Yuji are one and the same because they kill each other's species without a second thought. Until Yuji can accept Mahito as his own reflection, Mahito doesn't believe he can ever be defeated by the young man's half-hearted convictions.

Mahito punches Yuji from inside a civilian (Anime)

Mahito uses civilians to break down Yuji's resolve.

Yuji manages to retain his focus by taking inspiration from Nanami's calm demeanor. Mahito tries to predict Yuji's game plan and attempts to strike through Yuji's heart. Yuji uses his exceptional fighting skills to evade and counter-attack in one motion using Taido Martial Arts: Manji Kick! After suffering a direct blow from Yuji's foot to his face, Mahito is able to force Yuji back before losing any more ground. The cursed spirit concedes this exchange to his opponent and playfully suggests they move on to the next round.[68]

By 11:19 P.M., Yuji and Mahito's fight has brought them near the Dogenzaka Ticket Gate within the station. Mahito stays mobile and surprises Yuji with all kinds of new moves including the ability to dismember his limbs. The cursed spirit hunts down bystanders still alive inside the station in order to break down Yuji's resolve. Mahito plans on adding another card to his hand that will deal the final blow and completely destroy Yuji's spirit.

A while ago at 9:30 P.M., Dagon consumed almost all the non-sorcerers at B4F during Mahito's game to hunt down Yuji. In order to ensure he'd find Yuji first, Mahito split himself in two and created a wall between himself and Jogo.[69]

Nobara ignores Nanami's orders (Anime)

Nobara ignores Nanami's orders and rejoins the fighting.

More recently at 11:14 P.M., Nobara disobeyed Nanami's orders to leave Shibuya and re-entered the battlefield instead. Akari was taken away by paramedics and told Nobara to come along but the first-year refused. Nobara feels as if she hasn't accomplished enough during all the fighting and can't run away while her allies are still in danger.[70] By 11:16 P.M., Nobara encountered Mahito's double in a Dogenzaka Alleyway.

Nobara recognizes Mahito as the patch face curse that's given Yuji trouble in the past. Mahito is interested to know that he's famous but Nobara mocks him for being a coward. He attempts to kill the girl but Nobara repels him using a mix of martial arts and her Hairpin attack. Mahito suffers a solid blow that leaves his head bleeding, but Mahito doesn't believe the girl can effectively injure his soul. He can tell that Nobara is a friend of Yuji's and plans to kill her as the added card to his hand. As Yuji's nemesis, Mahito knows presenting Nobara's corpse to him will deal the final blow to destroy his soul for good.[71]

Nobara clashing with Mahito (Anime)

Nobara fights Mahito's double.

At the same time that Nobara is fighting Mahito's double, Mahito's main body continues to use non-sorcerers against Yuji. By forcing a bystander to explode, Mahito manages to blind Yuji with blood in his eyes. Meanwhile, Nobara lures Mahito's double into a false sense of security before hitting him with her Resonance technique. Nobara's cursed technique allows her to injure Mahito's soul via his body, taking him completely by surprise. Both Mahito and his double are seriously injured by Resonance, something the special grade never saw coming. He even acknowledges Nobara as a natural enemy of his just like Yuji. Nobara notices that Resonance hit two targets simultaneously and correctly deduces that she's been fighting against patch face's doppelganger.[72]

Yuji pummels Mahito into a pillar (Anime)

Yuji takes advantage of Mahito's main body suffering damage from Nobara as well.

Before Mahito could capitalize on blinding Yuji, spikes from Resonance erupt from his main body. Yuji recognizes this effect and is inspired by the aid of his friend, reminded that he's not alone in this fight. Yuji takes full advantage of Mahito's weakened state and barrages him with rapid-fire punches with the full intention of exorcising his nemesis here and now. Sensing his soul is in serious danger, Mahito's double flees from Nobara and heads back into Shibuya Station. The double leads Nobara underground while Mahito's primary body splits into smaller versions of himself in order to flee from Yuji.

Both Mahitos meet in a corridor and successfully lead Yuji and Nobara to opposite sides of it. Yuji yells at Nobara as soon as he sees her, telling her to run away as loud as he can. The Mahito twins switch opponents and his real body hits Nobara's face before she can even realize what's going on. Yuji kills Mahito's double and checks on Nobara. She's silent and touches her face. Since Mahito couldn't kill Nanami with just one touch in their first fight, he waits to see how Nobara will fare.[73]

Mahito touching Nobara (Anime)

Nobara falls into Mahito's trap.

Nobara reflects on her past and who she is as a person. She used to believe everyone was crazy and rejected them due to the small village and invasive environment she grew up in. Thanks to her time in Jujutsu High, Nobara learned to embrace others and her own craziness. She tells Yuji that her life wasn't so bad just before her face transfigures and she collapses to the ground. Yuji can only watch in horror as his close friend appears to drop dead right in front of him.[74]

Stacked on top of losing to Choso, Sukuna's rampage, and Kento Nanami's death, Nobara's demise is too much for Yuji to bear. Yuji's resolve gave way a long time ago and just as Mahito planned, his spirit breaks. Exhilarated by his talent for crushing souls as a curse, Mahito praises himself as a true curse and taps into his potential. As the sparks of black do not choose who they bless, Mahito strikes Yuji with Black Flash. Yuji suffers a direct hit and is pummeled down by Mahito both mentally and physically. Mahito mocks Yuji's naivety involving the jujutsu world, pointing out that they're at war and Yuji is a fool for thinking he could achieve victory without realizing the stakes.

Yuji nearly defeated after Mahito breaks his spirit (Anime)

Mahito crushes Yuji's body and spirit.

Satisfied with crushing Yuji's psyche and his body, Mahito goes in for the kill. An instant before he beheads his longtime adversary, a clapping sound echoes through the corridor. Mahito suddenly switches places with none other than Yuji's "official best friend" Aoi Todo. He's accompanied by Kyoto first-year Arata Nitta, who performs first aid on Nobara. Arata expresses that he doesn't believe she will survive but Todo ignores him and tells Arata to treat Yuji using his innate technique. Todo asks Yuji to stand and fight because the climactic final battle has just begun.[75]

With his resolve shattered, Yuji reveals all the horrors he's gone through to Todo and states he cannot forgive himself. Attracted to Yuji's misery, Mahito attacks but Todo uses Boogie Woogie to keep him away. Todo encourages Yuji by telling him that jujutsu sorcerers cannot be bound by their sins and asks Yuji what he's been entrusted with; all jujutsu sorcerers must continue moving forward until they find that answer. By applying his innate technique to Yuji's wounds, Arata dulls the pain and ensures the injuries won't get any worse. In order to give Yuji a small ray of hope, Arata tells him that he treated Nobara with his technique and states she has a chance of survival, before retreating with her.

Yuji and Aoi Todo ready to fight Mahito (Anime)

Todo inspires Yuji to get back up and fight.

While fighting Todo one-on-one, Mahito has trouble dealing with the "top-knot gorilla's" evasive techniques. The special grade curse remains confident he'll use Black Flash again and unlock the true essence of his soul. Mahito is so infatuated with himself that this momentary distraction leaves him surprised when Todo switches places with Yuji.

Back in the fight, Yuji apologizes to Nanami for almost giving up and promises to take on his share of suffering as well. Yuji lands a powerful Black Flash that completely destroys Mahito's block. After reeling back from getting his arm destroyed, Mahito smiles in reaction to Yuji coming back from the dead. Todo welcomes his best friend back to the battle as Yuji stands next to him ready to go.[76]

Kyoto sorcerers disappointed in Kokichi (Anime)

Kyoto sorcerers heading to the Shibuya Incident last minute.

While the battle in Shibuya has reached its climax, the other Kyoto students and Utahime Iori try to reach the city by train. Mechamaru manipulated their missions to make sure no one of the Kyoto school would be near Shibuya on October 31st. By the time Mechamaru's peers found out, it was too late for them to get there in time to help. Todo and Arata are exceptions because Todo is more than strong enough to take care of himself and Arata's innate technique is useful in this situation. Mechamaru uses the remaining time within his communication device to share a somber goodbye with Kasumi Miwa. While she cries, the others can only relent over what happened with their classmate.

Yuji and Todo fight another special grade together, continuing the battle against Mahito inside Shibuya Station. Mahito tries to formulate a strategy around calculating the strength of each combatant's soul; Todo is operating at full strength while Mahito and Yuji have less than half their maximum health.

Body Repel erupts from underground Shibuya (Anime)

The sorcerers' fight with Mahito erupts into the streets of Shibuya.

Mahito is surprised by Boogie Woogie's ability to swap places with an un-activated transfigured human, allowing Todo to get behind him. Determined not to be left behind by Yuji, Todo unleashes Black Flash as well through a kick that destroys Mahito's hand. Although Todo's attack doesn't damage Mahito's soul, the cursed spirit acknowledges that all combatants are now operating at 120% of their potential. He decides to turn up the intensity of the fight and counters Boogie Woogie by attacking with Idle Transfiguration: Body Repel from all sides. The attack breaks through the streets of Shibuya from underground, taking the battle directly the city.[77]

Mahito's first objective is to separate Todo from Yuji to get rid of the constant switching. He activates Idle Transfiguration: Polymorphic Soul Isomer to occupy the grade 1 sorcerer, summoning a special type of transfigured human with elite explosive power. One strike is enough to smash Todo clean through a skyscraper.

Mahito's domain expansion of 0

Just like Gojo, Mahito uses a domain expansion of just 0.2 seconds!

A single counter-attack from Todo is able to put a Polymorphic Soul Isomer down. This exchange reveals the Polymorphic Soul Isomer's weakness to Todo, allowing him to dispatch two more with ease. Mahito tries to capitalize while he has Yuji alone but it's not long before Todo rejoins his best friend's side. Without any other choice, Mahito decides to take a page out of Satoru Gojo's book and activates an all-or-nothing Domain Expansion of only 0.2 seconds![78]

At 120% of his potential thanks to Black Flash, Mahito combined the two step-process of realizing his innate domain and activating his innate technique into one. This sublimely fast maneuver out-speeds both Todo and Yuji's attempts to counter the domain. After briefly mocking Sukuna inside the King of Curse's innate domain, Mahito defiantly finishes the activation of Self-Embodiment of Perfection.

Mahito hits Aoi Todo with Black Flash (Anime)

Left open after being forced to sever his own hand, Todo is hit by Mahito's Black Flash.

Only Todo's hand is transfigured, but he's forced to sever it, leaving him wide open to Mahito's next attack. The cursed spirit can't transfigure Todo so soon after activating Domain Expansion but does the next best thing lands a direct hit using Black Flash. Todo miraculously survives by concentrating all his cursed energy to defend the point of impact and minimize the damage.

Todo is still badly hurt so Mahito tries to follow up by transfiguring the top-knot gorilla. Mahito is momentarily distracted by the picture of Yuji inside of Todo's severed pendent. Todo does the unexpected and claps using Mahito's outstretched hand, swapping places with Yuji, who is already mid-swing. Before Mahito can even react, Yuji lands a devastating Black Flash that smashes his opponent's face.

Mahito's evolution (Anime)

Mahito evolves into the truest essence of his being.

Miraculously, Todo's palm is only slightly-disfigured from touching Mahito, but he's out of the fight. Yuji thanks Todo for all his help and believes in himself to handle the rest. Mahito uses another Polymorphic Soul Isomer to occupy Yuji while he recovers from being hit with Black Flash. He commends Todo for being a pain till the very end, but the special grade was still able to use a Black Flash of his own again. Realizing the true essence of his soul, Mahito evolves into his final form using Idle Transfiguration: Instant Spirit Body of Distorted Killing.[79]

Elevated into a much more powerful form, Mahito attempts to celebrate his rebirth by ending Yuji. Mahito's body is too hard for Yuji to damage and trading offense doesn't bode well either. Yuji's only choice is to dedicate all his cursed energy to a maximum output Black Flash. Although Mahito has become much stronger, the damage from Yuji's last Black Flash still lingers. The two of them take a moment to regain their footing before rushing into one final fight to the finish.[80]

Yuji using Black Flash to defeat Mahito (Anime)

Yuji's fight-ending Black Flash!

Mahito gives Yuji a target to hit on his nigh-invulnerable body but the sorcerer doesn't take the bait. Yuji controls Divergent Fist's second impact and takes Mahito by surprise, throwing off the angle of what would've been a killing blow. Before Mahito can adjust, Todo reappears and fakes out the cursed spirit by "clapping" with his severed hand. This makes Mahito turn around, but Boogie Woogie did not activate. Todo's fake out gives Yuji the perfect opening to land full-power, fight-ending Black Flash that utterly defeats Mahito.

Pseudo-Geto confronts Mahito after his defeat (Anime)

Pseudo-Geto reappears before Yuji is able to finish off Mahito.

Yuji confronts Mahito one last time and admits that they are the same. Yuji doesn't need a reason to kill cursed spirits just as Mahito never needed one to kill humans. Yuji accepts that he's a cog in the war between sorcerers and cursed spirits. Mahito attempts to flee and Yuji chases him like a predator hunting their prey through the snow. Before Yuji can catch up and finish Mahito off, however, Pseudo-Geto appears to come to his ally's aid.[81]

Todo and Arata originally arrived in Shibuya around 11:09 P.M. and headed straight for B5F. Prison Realm had already been moved so Todo decided their focus needed to be on supporting their fellow sorcerers.

Yuji hit by Pseudo-Geto's centipede curse (Anime)

Pseudo-Geto overpowers Yuji using Cursed Spirit Manipulation.

At 11:28 P.M. in front of Shibuya Stream, Panda found Kusakabe under the wreckage caused by Jogo's Maximum: Meteor. Displeased with Sukuna putting them in danger, Kusakabe expressed that he agrees Yuji should be executed. Inside Shibuya Station on B3F, Choso suffered from visions of Yuji being one of his brothers. Searching for answers, Choso got up and left to find Yuji. After being nearly killed by Pseudo-Geto, Mei Mei retreated to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia by using Ui Ui's innate technique.

At 10:36 P.M. Malaysian local time, Mei Mei gets a call from her business partner and advises them to sell all their Japanese stock and Tokyo real estate.

Currently, at 11:36 P.M., Yuji tries to fight Pseudo-Geto for Satoru's freedom, but is repelled by Cursed Spirit Manipulation. Mahito attempts to use the scuffle as a way to touch Pseudo-Geto's soul, but the curse user avoids him. Yuji watches as Mahito is absorbed using Cursed Spirit Manipulation and Pseudo-Geto asks the young man to discuss the future of the jujutsu world.[82]

11:36 P.M. - End of the Incident, Shibuya

Pseudo-Geto ingests Mahito (Anime)

Pseudo-Geto absorbs Mahito and extracts his innate technique.

Heavily injured from Pseudo-Geto's barrage of cursed techniques, Yuji bides his time while the curse user reveals that he's able to extract the techniques of any semi-grade 1 and above curse he absorbs. Shortly after he consumes Mahito, Pseudo-Geto is ambushed by the Kyoto sorcerers in one last attempt to retake Prison Realm. He repels them by unleashing Maximum: Uzumaki, but Panda and Kusakabe arrive in time to help avoid any casualties.

Choso surprisingly joins the fray shortly after and realizes that one of Pseudo-Geto's identities is none other than the evilest sorcerer in history, Noritoshi Kamo. Choso feels he was manipulated by his evil father into almost killing one of his brothers. He attacks only to be cut off by Uraume, who comes to the aid of their fellow curse user.[83]

Noritoshi Kamo (Ancestor) First Appearance (Anime)

One of Pseudo-Geto's former identities is revealed to be the evilest sorcerer in history, Noritoshi Kamo.

Due to Noritoshi Kamo extending his life by moving from body to body, it's entirely possible that Yuji is related to Choso, which the Death Painting takes very seriously, using all his strength to protect Yuji, fighting alongside the sorcerers against Pseudo-Geto and Uraume. Despite their numbers advantage, the entire group is immobilized by Uraume's Ice Formation cursed techniques. Before Uraume kills everyone, special grade jujutsu sorcerer Yuki Tsukumo suddenly arrives in time to rescue everyone.[84]

Yuki Tsukumo comes to the rescue (Anime)

Yuki Tsukumo appears at the last possible moment to rescue everyone.

Yuki buys time for her allies by engaging Pseudo-Geto in a dialogue about the relationship between humans and cursed energy. Pseudo-Geto believes he must bring forth chaos he cannot control in order to exceed the bounds of cursed energy. He activates Idle Transfiguration and affects the souls of everyone he marked over the years in preparation for this day.

Pseudo-Geto shows Prison Realm to Yuji (Anime)

Pseudo-Geto successfully escapes with Prison Realm.

Two types of non-sorcerers were marked: The first type are people who ingested cursed objects in a similar fashion to Yuji. The second type are people whose brains were meant to be non-sorcerers, like Junpei Yoshino. The former had their bodies adjusted to be used as vessels and the latter had their brains adjusted for jujutsu.

Pseudo-Geto awakens at least a thousand incarnated sorcerers from ages ago and plans to make everyone he's marked fight one another in order to deepen their understanding of cursed energy. The curse user summons numerous cursed spirits to mask his escape, succeeding in all his plans by leaving with Prison Realm. Before escaping, Pseudo-Geto tells Sukuna that the Golden Age of Jujutsu is upon them once again, and the Heian Era is returning![85]

Aftermath

Void created by the Shibuya Incident (Anime)

All twenty-three wards of Tokyo are compromised by curses, leaving a literal void in Japan.

In the wake of the Shibuya Incident, Pseudo-Geto causes at least ten million cursed spirits to get released. The destruction spreads from Shibuya and all throughout Tokyo, causing all twenty-three wards to fall. This results in a literal void in the country, both politically and on the grid. Only the municipalities of Okutama, Oume City, Akiruno City, Hachioji City, Machida City, and various islands are safe. Jujutsu sorcerers are guarding the evacuees, but a plan must be formulated to relocate over five million citizens.

Figures with influence, power, and knowledge of the jujutsu world argue how best to address the chaos. They must deal with the collapsing economy, as well as public knowledge of the existence of cursed spirits, and the logistics of rehoming millions of displaced civilians. One counter-measure presented is to expand the two barriers to the edge of the prefecture. One barrier is centered around an Imperial Residence established during the Meiji Era and the other around Tokyo Jujutsu High. That way they can be established as restricted areas and become completely uninhabited by humans.

Consequences of the Shibuya Incident (Anime)

Jujutsu headquarters comes down with several harsh rulings, including the immediate executions of Yuji and Masamichi Yaga.

Meanwhile, jujutsu headquarters sends out a notice of multiple rulings following the Shibuya Incident:

1. Suguru Geto is officially stated to have "survived" and has been sentenced to death.
2. Satoru Gojo is deemed an accomplice in the Shibuya Incident and is permanently exiled. Unsealing him will be considered a criminal act.
3. Due to his relation to Satoru and Suguru, Masamichi Yaga is sentenced to death for inciting the Shibuya Incident.
4. The suspension on Yuji Itadori's execution is lifted and he is to be sentenced to death immediately.
5. Special grade sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu is appointed Yuji Itadori's executioner.

Yuta only returned from overseas recently and he has the motive to defy authority to help Satoru Gojo. For these reasons, Yuta's loyalty is tested by the jujutsu higher-ups. In order to prove he will obey commands and execute Satoru's pupil Yuji, Yuta agrees to an assignment. He's sent to Shibuya to exorcise a cursed spirit with the ability to lure humans like an anglerfish.

Yuta declares he will kill Yuji Itadori (Anime)

Yuta Okkotsu is appointed Yuji Itadori's executioner.

Yuta makes short work of the fish-like curse and rescues a young girl. He returns to headquarters shortly after and swears to kill Yuji for cutting off Toge's arm. The higher-ups state they will remain unconvinced regardless of how many curses Yuta exorcises. The special grade sorcerer agrees to enter a binding vow with them to ensure Yuji is properly exterminated.[86]

At the Zenin Household, Naobito passes away from his injuries and his will is read in front of his relatives. Due to a clause that comes into play in the case that Satoru Gojo is incapacitated in any way, Megumi is named the next head of the family. This infuriates Naobito's son, Naoya Zenin, who believes himself to be the rightful heir. In order to ensure he'll become the next head of the Zenin Family, Naoya conspires to kill Megumi. He finds out Megumi is searching for Yuji in Tokyo and plans to kill them both since Sukuna's vessel is slated for execution anyway.

Yuji sits alone on stairs in Shibuya

Yuji decides he doesn't deserve to be with everyone at Jujutsu High.

After failing to stop Pseudo-Geto from escaping, Yuki apologized to Yuji for not acting sooner. She decided to keep an eye on things once the situation with the Pseudo-Geto reached a certain point, but it was too late by then. Yuki reminds Yuji they're not necessarily on the same side and claims she will confront Tengen next. Once she leaves, this leaves Yuji alone to think about what he'll do next.

Convinced Yuji is his younger brother, Choso forgives Yuji for what happened with Eso and Kechizu and remains by the young man's side. Yuji feels he can't return to Jujutsu High due to everything that's happened with Sukuna. They both agree to remain in Shibuya and exorcise as many cursed spirits as possible.[87]

Unknown At the remains of the Shibuya Police Station, Udagawa Police Box Noritoshi Kamo remotely casts Idle Transfiguration on 1000 previously marked non-sorcerers, reshaping their brains into those of sorcerers and releasing them into the world. Having successfully sealed Gojo inside the station, he escapes with the Prison Realm.[147]
