The Saegusa Family in the Anime
The Saegusa (七草, lit. seven grass) Family is one of the Ten Master Clans, bearing the number Seven (七) in their name. The current Head of the Saegusa Family is Saegusa Kouichi. [1]
Background[]
Before the establishment of the Ten Master Clans, the Saegusa Family were part of the Third Institute before moving to the Seventh Institute, hence why instead of the common spelling of Saegusa as (三枝, lit. three branches), they have the number "(七)" in their name now. [2] This also caused animosity to some members of the Magicians of the "7" like the Shippou Family and become known to the rest of the Number Families that they have a bone to pick with each other.[1]
Since the creation of the Ten Master Clans system, the Saegusa Family has never left the ranks of the Ten Master Clans. [3]
An arranged marriage was eventually made between Saegusa Kouichi and Yotsuba Maya but due to the events of the Nightmare of 2062 that left Maya unable to bear children, the arrangement was cancelled and the Saegusa Clan is now on bad terms with the Yotsuba that became a rivalry in the years to come.[4] They have covertly tried to harm and attack the rival clan through third parties and intermediaries such as the press, Chinese traditionalists and the humanist movement. Some of these attempts have come to light to the rest of the Ten Master Clans and nearly threatened their status as remaining as one of the then.
Abilities[]
The Saegusa don't have unique abilities like the Yotsuba. However, the Saegusa Family do not have a system that they are bad at, so they are ironically referred to as "Omnipotent". [5] Unlike other families from the Ten Masters Clans, the Saegusa didn't alter their genes through only one of the Ten Institutes. [6]
As such, the Saegusa Family has members who have prominent abilities such as Mayumi who is known as the "Elven Sniper" for her remote precision shooting magic,[7] Izumi and Kasumi, also known as the Saegusa Twins for their ability to "resonate".[8]
Business Ventures[]
Kouichi, the current Head of the Saegusa Family runs a venture capital business. [1]
After graduating from the National Magic University, Mayumi also begins working at an investment firm owned by the Saegusa Family but at the request of Kouichi, Mayumi begins working at the Magian Company.[9]
Main House[]
The Saegusa reside in Kantō, Tokyo. [1]
They live in a grand residence mansion which has extensive grounds. [10]
The Saegusa have a greater number of servants who serve them unlike the Ichijou Family. [11]
Area of Influence[]
Saegusa and Juumonji Area of Influence in the Manga
The Saegusa and Juumonji Family's influence encompasses specifically the Kantō region and all of Izu. During the Master Clans Conference held every four years, the heads of both family's give a report on the status of the regions they monitor. Although they share the same area with the Juumonji, the Saegusa is more focused on the investigations of their region. [1]
The Saegusa Family's power surrounds the capital and can act regardless of jurisdiction. The Saegusa Family is one of the two most influential families in the Ten Master Clans, besides the Yotsuba. [12]
The Saegusa Family is the real patron of the National Defense Force Intelligence 3rd Division. [12]

2nd Wife - she has three daughters with Kouichi. She is also estranged with Mayumi on pretext of medical issues. [14]
