I think one of the important things is helping them understand the IMPACT they are making. You are not just volunteering, you are doing life changing work for the community. Don't just say "We need help to serve dinner at the food bank tonight" Say things like "There are 100's of people that love coming to our food bank to get food that cant afford it, and we need your help to serve these amazing humans in challenging situations"

I believe that any social impact goal can’t be fulfilled without nurturing leaders from the volunteers. The more they are included in the cause with acceleration in leadership work, the better NGO gets. In my experience, we trained many young doctors for our Cancer awareness initiative and let them lead the project, they excelled beyond our expectations.

Social impact and NGO work is all about community of like minded people longing for a common goal. We do a lot of festival celebration at our NGO. In India there are a lot of festivals. And those are the best times to build the community around the celebrations. Awards and picnics helps us too.
