Leverage your strengths to ease the transition. 3. Identify skill gaps and plan for learning/upskilling. 4. Connect with people who’ve successfully transitioned to gain insights. 5. Embrace the initial phase by working hard, learning, and adjusting your approach. 6. Track progress, celebrate small wins, and focus on the impact you're making. 7. Stay focused, patient, and open to change!

There are many transferable skills that are crucial for social impact roles such a strategic planning, project management, influencing, communication etc. Identify which skills you currently hone that could be of value to the social impact role that you are interested in. If there is a particular skill you would like to gain more experience on (eg - strategic planning), try taking on an assignment(s) in your current role that requires strategic planning so that you can gain first hand experience in that skill before trying to get a social impact role that strongly requires that skill.

Preciso aprofundar meu conhecimento sobre questões sociais específicas e entender melhor o cenário da gestão sem fins lucrativos e os princípios do empreendedorismo social. Para isso, planejo não parar meus estudos, pretendo fazer meu doutorado e buscar cursos especializados e recursos adicionais, como workshops e leituras relevantes. Esse esforço demonstrará meu compromisso com o desenvolvimento contínuo e aumentará minha capacidade de contribuir de forma eficaz nas ações.

A abordagem mencionada é realista e valiosa para quem está fazendo a transição para uma carreira de impacto social. You will also find experts when you volunteer for a cause that you care about, who would be able to provide you with valuable advise. Many of my mentees found me in a vast array of settings. Hence, strengthen your network!

The relevance of attending and seeking out conferences, summits, and events can't be overemphasised. As a current undergraduate student, I have seen first-hand the benefits attached to attending conferences, and one benefit is NETWORKING with people from different sectors. Therefore, it is ideal for anyone who has a keen interest in contributing to social impact to network, because that gives room for greater opportunities and sustainable relationships.

If you have a purpose and a story make sure you verbalize during the interview especially if it aligns with the brand value and the mission of the hiring organization. Be consistent in your engagements and touch points to that purpose mentioned in your resume. Finally, always good to have references from leaders in that social impact realm. You get exposed to them through volunteering or having worked with them before.

Tailor Communication When transitioning to a social impact role, it's crucial to tailor your communication to resonate with different stakeholders. Whether you're speaking to executives, team members, or external partners, adapt your message to align with their priorities and interests. Ao atuar na carreira do impacto socioambiental, é preciso adaptar minha comunicação para alinhar-me com os valores e a linguagem do setor. Isso inclui ajustar meu currículo e carta de apresentação para destacar e encaixar como minhas experiências e habilidades, e ainda tem mais, deve se ajustar aos objetivos e missão da organização com que esteja vinculado. Em entrevistas, devem ser enfatizados resultados e conquistas anteriores que comprovem capacidade de criar mudanças positivas e contribuir para os objetivos socioambientais. When you have multiple volunteering experiences, it helps your interviewer to be certain on your passion when the cause you volunteer for is consistent. I remembered interviewing for an intern many years ago, who had a impressive resume - more than 5 years of volunteering, but every volunteering was short and completely different. I commented that the student had a very wide social interest. What was startling is the sharing that the previous school forced students to volunteer and the dorm required students to volunteer to stay. So it wasn't really voluntary after all. Suffice to say I didn't hire as there were others who was more consistent and believable in their passion to really benefit from a CSR working experience.

Volunteering led to my first CEO role in a social impact organization. I volunteered with a nonprofit on their Strategic Planning Committee. That led to a volunteer opportunity with a Social Impact organization. Within a few weeks, I was talking with customers and completing strategic analyses to inform the strategic plan. When a CEO candidate did not work out the Board reached out to me and I was asked to lead the organization. Volunteering works.

In my viewpoint, one of the greater ways to contribute to social impact is by volunteerism, and that entails volunteering wisely. It has been said, that with volunteerism, one can be exposed to numerous opportunities, and that opportunities contribute towards giving the person a competitive advantage over others. In essence, choose volunteer opportunities that allow you to apply your professional skills for a better world for everyone.

Volunteering can show a huge strength in your commitment to making a bigger change in the world. Doing the work is just as important as talking about it. It gives you real relatable skills to be able to speak the language of the orgaization you are applying for. Create stories that you can share and be relatable to your potential new employer
