In my experience, understanding your emotions and those of your team members is an incredibly important consideration in any security operation. For example, during a stressful time of dealing with a security incident, I noticed some of my team members were visibly stressed. By simply recognizing their emotional state, and normalizing it, they were able to refocus and remain effective in problem-solving.

Based on my own experience, a greater sensitivity to non-verbal indications may greatly increase clarity during communication. For example, in a meeting about a new security protocol, I saw a fellow team member display an expression of confusion about the instructions. Recognizing their non-verbal uncertainty, I asked if they had questions, which provided an opportunity for clarification, and also made sure that all members, even the confused member, had an understanding of the new security protocol.
