Chainsaw Man Wiki

This is the Manual of Style for the Chainsaw Man Wiki. The following article contains information set as the guidelines that are used to keep articles structured and organized in a consistent fashion.

Writing Style[]

General Rules[]

  • The content of this wiki must be expressed in English. This is an English language wiki and all edits are expected to be carried out in English, the sole exception being the use of Japanese in {{Nihongo}} templates to display the raw names of names, techniques, titles, and relevant media.
    • To avoid any inconsistencies, American English should be used over British English or any other national variant of the language. This isn't to say American English is any more "correct", it has simply been selected because most of the wiki's viewers are from the US.
  • All information added to this wiki should be only taken from the manga, anime, official websites, official material, officially-proven interviews and Tatsuki Fujimoto. Do not add information that you haven't confirmed is canon, and try to add references to information you add.
  • The official Viz translations are to be used for the names of all series-relevant terminology and media.
    • In the event that a Viz translation is confidently deemed to be inaccurate, it may be changed following a discussion with the wiki's administrators. If possible, the initial Viz translation should be listed elsewhere on the page for extra clarity surrounding the subject.
    • In the case of anime-only content, the official English Blu-ray subtitles should be used.
    • If the relevant content has not been officially translated yet, unofficial titles may be used as long as they are sensible and as close to the raw Japanese as possible. Please bring up the subject with an administrator before making any unofficially-titled pages.
      • If this is in regards to a Japanese name, their name should be romanized without the use of long vowels of macrons for the sake of consistency with the rest of the names on the wiki.
  • The use of profanity, slang, and euphemisms in articles is not permitted, unless it is used in the context of quotes from characters. Stronger derogatory language is not permitted at all.
  • The tenses of articles/sections must be kept consistent.
    • For character articles, with the exception of Synopsis sections:
      • Articles for characters who were deceased before the story started, should be written in past tense (e.g. Denji's Father).
      • Articles for characters who died should be written in past tense (e.g. Aki Hayakawa).
      • Articles for characters who are alive as of where the manga is currently up to should be written in present tense.
    • All Synopsis sections should be written in present tense even if the character whose synopsis it is has died.
    • History sections of character articles should be written in past tense.
  • Refrain from using personal bias or assumptions when editing articles, unless it is specifically mentioned within the series or by the author via a media platform.

Specific Rules[]

Terminology[]

The following names and terms should be capitalized: Devil, Fiend, Hybrid, Hell, Devil Hunter, Special Division, Public Safety.

Trivia[]

Trivial but noteworthy information from volume extras, databooks, spin-offs and the like may be added to the relevant pages as long as there is referenced proof that it is canon and accurate (see below for referencing specifics).

Trivia comparing an aspect of the series such as an ability to one from another series may only be added if Chainsaw Man genuinely seems to have taken inspiration from this piece of media. Such trivia may be removed at an administrator's discretion if they do not believe it is noteworthy or feasible enough.

References[]

References should be added as often as possible to pages with a lot of information. They should always link to pages on the wiki or official outside sources, never to unofficial or fan-translated sites.

When adding references, always use the {{Ref}} template. The complete list of parameters for this template can be found on its documentation page, but some basic ones are:

  • Manga Chapter: {{Ref|m|#|#}}
  • Anime Episode: {{Ref|a|#}}

References should be collected under a page's ==References== heading using either <references/> or {{References}}. The latter generates a scroll box and should only be used if there are more than 7 different references on a page.

Images and Media[]

See the Image Policy page for more information, or contact an administrator if you have any questions or concerns.

Miscellaneous[]

  • When writing dates, write in a month → day → year format without an extra "th", "rd", etc. for the day number (e.g. "January 1, 2020" over "January 1st, 2020" or "1 January, 2020").
  • Don't add extra line breaks to pages where it's not necessary as this can alter spacing. Spaces should only be added between paragraphs and sections.
  • Categories should always be added at the end of pages with a line break between them and the last line of page content. Interwikis should then be added a line below them if applicable.

Page Layout Guide[]

Characters[]

Character pages should not be created before the character's name or alias has been revealed.

{{Character}} should always be at the top of a character page, and all relevant fields should be filled in. Infoboxes should only contain 2 images: one depicting the character's main appearance in the anime, and one depicting their main appearance in the manga.

  • Anime images should be official full body designs if this is applicable to the character, but may simply be screenshots that show a good portion of their design if this is not possible.
  • Manga images aren't required to be colored or cropped out.

Character pages should then begin with the character's name in English and Japanese, along with a 1-2 sentence general description. The following headings should be used in order if applicable to the character:

  • Appearance
    • Physical appearance comes first, followed by the character's outfit(s)
      • If the character has multiple noteworthy outfits/appearances, they are to be listed in the order they appear
        • In this case, a gallery subheader may also be added with relevant images of the character's different appearances
  • Personality
  • History (if applicable and not already on a subpage)
  • Synopsis (if not already on a subpage)
  • Relationships (if applicable)
  • Abilities
    • This heading should be added even if a character has no special abilities; in such a case, simply specify that they do not possess any form of unnatural ability in this section
  • Chapter Appearances (if applicable)
  • Anime Appearances (if applicable)
  • Etymology (if applicable)
  • Trivia (if applicable)
  • References
  • Site Navigation

Images depicting major events that involve the character may be included and are preferred in order to have a visual representation of the character. However, there should not be more besides what is necessary so as to not clutter the page, and they should only be added if they are relevant to the content of the text they're placed by.

If you're still unsure about how to structure a character article, use Denji or Makima as a reference.

Subpages[]

Gallery subpages may be added at any time provided there are more than 5 images of the character uploaded to the wiki.

History subpage should only be added when a character's page has become extremely lengthy due to a surplus of content, and if one of these subpages is added then the other must be as well. Tabs should only ever be added if a character has all 3 subpages.

Chapters[]

New chapter pages should not be created before they're released by Viz.

Chapters should be named by their chapter number, not their title.

{{Chapter box}} should be used at the top of the page with all relevant fields filled in. Only the raw (Japanese) cover of the chapter should be used in the infobox: the cover page of a chapter is the one that has the chapter title on it, and it is not necessarily the first page.

Chapter pages should then begin with the chapter's title in both English and Japanese, followed by its chapter number and "Chainsaw Man" manga for series specification.

The following headings should then be used in order:

  • Summary
  • Characters
  • Trivia (if applicable)
  • References (if applicable)
  • Site Navigation

Images depicting major events that take place in the chapter may be included and are preferred in order to have a visual representation of the chapter. However, there should not be more besides what is necessary so as to not clutter the page, and they should only be added if they are relevant to the content of the text they're placed by.

If you're still unsure about how to structure a chapter article, use Chapter 50 as a reference.

Episodes[]

Episode pages may be created as soon as their episode titles are revealed, but should remain empty of any unconfirmed information until the episode is legally available in English.

Episodes should be named by their episode number, not their title. This should be their chronological number and should not take into account the season they belong to (e.g. "Episode 15" over "Season 2 Episode 3").

{{Episode Infobox}} should be used at the top of the page with all relevant fields filled in. {{Scroll box}} should be used in infoboxes if any staff lists are especially long. The image in the infobox should be one of the officially provided.

The following headings should then be used in order:

  • Synopsis
    • This should be a short summary taken from the official US anime website
  • Summary
  • Characters
  • Notes
  • Gallery
  • Trivia (if applicable)

Images and gifs depicting major events that take place in the episode may be included and are preferred in order to have a visual representation of the episode. However, there should not be more besides what is necessary so as to not clutter the page, and they should only be added if they are relevant to the content of the text they're placed by.

If you're still unsure about how to structure an episode article, use Episode 5 as a reference.

These rules are subject to change any time without prior notice. Any further issue not stated here is up to the discretion of the wiki's staff team.
