Every character I play holds a very special place in my heart so it’s hard for me to choose one over the other because each experience is so different. The thing that is so special about Dodge is that she was written to have fun while being mean.

–Laysla De Oliveira

Laysla De Oliveira is an Brazilian-Canadian actress born in Canada and of Brazilian descent. She portrays Dodge in Netflix's adaptation of Locke & Key. She briefly portrayed Ellie Whedon in the final episodes of both seasons.

Biography[]

Born on January 11, 1992, in Toronto, Canada, Laysla grew up studying the humanities from a young age, and while she became a model, she was more interested in acting. During filming, she developed a powerful bond with Darby Stanchfield and supplied the Portuguese dub for Netflix's imminent presentation. She also referred Ian Lake to Netflix, who wound up playing James Bolton. Unlike Griffin Gluck, she learned of the show's final twist relatively quickly. She appreciated how Dodge was unafraid to be cruel to people and never apologized, a trait not often seen in antagonistic female roles. Indeed, Dodge was her first time portraying a villain instead of a heroine or neutral character, and is her most well-known role to date. She was stated to have nothing but enthusiasm for the role and for the future of the Netflix franchise.

Despite this, she was backtracked in the second season, with most of her scenes being handed to Gluck instead at the last minute. Mark Tonderai said this questionable choice was intended to avoid repetition. Still, Laysla was notably the first to release anything related to Season Two by showing Dodge suiting up on her Instagram profile. In December of 2021, her longtime significant other Jonathan Keltz proposed to her, and she became engaged to him.
