• I would have paid for a premium version, that allowed me to add and style new categories.

IN its current form? Its that useful.

Rarely, will names not have a category.

    Plants – genus.
    Baby – origin, gender etc
    dogs – breed type.

it just not that usable without this functionality

    Hi @richinberlin99,

thanks for your feedback. I am not sure what you mean by categories? Do you mean categories within a directory? That is indeed not possible.

This plugin is explicitly made to be basic, understandable and lightweight. There is no styling inside the directory, because it adheres to your theme. And if you want to do some styling, there is a nice class-list in the FAQ that you can use to style with css. Judging from the current 3000+ installs, it really has a base to exist.

I regret that you rate it poorly on features that is clearly does not have. Also I don’t state that the plugin has this. It’s also not designed to be used that way. I think you are rating it for something that is not, and also does not claim to be. But I do appreciate your feedback.

There is no premium version of this plugin. But I think in the big ecosystem of the WordPress plugins there might be a fitting one for you.

I understand that you will not change your review, but I think it might be best to contact developers or start a support topic before using the review system to express that plugins do not meet your own requirements, even if they don’t state to support it.

    Kind regards, Jeroen

Some fair points, let me further elaborate.
    1. By Style a category, I meant to choose to display the category beside the name or not. Yes. poorly worded by me, improper use of the word style, I agree.
    2. 3000 installs. Well, that’s because there is nothing else. Hundreds of millions watch keeping up with the Kardashians. I won’t give them 5 stars either. My personal opinion of something is not affected by how many people do or do not do something. I just don’t care.
    3. Yes, I’ve rated it as not doing something, that I think it should do, regardless it was not designed to. If someone designed a car, with no doors, and said, with my car, you are meant to Dukes of Hazard yourself through the windows, I’d similarly point out – that’s not providing the basic functionality most people will want. And there, we get to the crux of it. My review is based on that. Clearly, your plugin was not designed to do what I want. Because it wasn’t. But its within reason to give a review on the basis of something missing obvious, basic functionality. The functionality of everything in WordPress is to have a category.
    4. I didn’t need to discuss it. I don’t need support. It’s an objective review of your plugin not doing something It can be reasonably expected to do. I am curious why you care at all. The plugin is free. There is no paid version. There is no pathway to add the functionality which I am sure many would want. I can see, others have also noted the problem.

Look. In 90 minutes, I’ve been able to replicate the functionality of your plugin with some basic requests to Chatgpt, and added in the functionality that I needed. That is the world we live in now.

If you are happy with the plugin working how it does, then leave it. My review remains in place, so people checking it out will realise that it doesn’t do categories. Many, like me, will not read the full spec first, and get caught out. I see others, already have. So my review helps those people who in fact want categories, expected them, and didn’t bother to read the fine print.

Thanks for your elaborate reply @richinberlin99 , and taking the time to do so. Surely I don’t expect you to change to review. My only point after reading your reply is that I disagree that there is basic functionality missing (for creating a glossary). You want more than it provides, and you expect more. That’s no problem, but I disagree that it’s missing something obvious or really basic stuff.

The pathway to add functionality is to contact me so we can discuss it. I have added lots of functionality for free based on user requests. Also, after inquiries I also made special (one time paid) versions of the plugin for people to use for their clients with very specific needs.

To why I care; it’s the product of something that I created myself, which others found useful. I also use lots of open source products myself and I like the idea that I am giving back by providing this plugin. For free, indeed. In my own spare time.

Having you say that there is nothing else, does mean something to me 🙂 If you created the plugin you need with ChatGPT, I would hope you are willing to share/release it. Not just so that I can learn, but mostly for the benefit of the others users with the same level of expectation. So they have something to choose.

Having said that, again I really do appreciate your insights and it’s (as you stated) good for others to read. But I did want to take the opportunity to respond to it and I am glad you did as well.

OK, yep, that clears it all up.

    a. You’ve made basic plugin.
    b. You know many people want category functionality, they should contact you to get it.
    c. I’ve now made my own plugin, replicating functionality, but with categories.
    d. No, I won’t be sharing it. It’s a hacky combo that requires first the creation of custom posts, and then aligning the functionality with them. Additionally, I would not wish to support a plugin, that I built for my own use. I would then end up spending time supporting it, rather than using it.

My position remains, yours would be both better and match what most people see as MVP functionality by having category integration.

But it’s all good. I assume you get more business from it, in its current format, so fair enough.

For me? I’m also now sorted.

    Thanks again @richinberlin99.

    a. Yes, I can agree
    b. No, I don’t. And I don’t see why you think ‘many people want’.
    c. Great! Would you be willing to share the site where you are going to use it in production or some screenshots? Maybe even to my email instead of publicly here? (jeroenpeters1986-gmail) I am very curious what chatGPT whips up.
    d. I can clearly understand that you don’t want to support a plugin. It takes lots of time indeed.

I am not looking to get business, as also these modification-versions come in my own time which I don’t have on my hands a lot.

Maybe it would match some people’s expectations better. I will certainly see if I can manage expectation a bit better before I will be working on a major new version which might be more flexible in this field.

Thanks again for your responses so far. All the best, Jeroen

    Sweet. Ive sent you

    a. A copy of the command i gave chatgpt
    b. A copy of the plugin.
    c. A video, detailing how i did it.

@richinberlin99 wow, thanks for taking the time to film it even! Great stuff that ChatGPT is giving you. It works nicely and is even admin manageable. A great deal of the plugin I am providing is centered around usability, internationalisation (with WP translations), design and working consistency with the rest of WordPress, which I take pride in. But I bet that is also something that ChatGPT will be able to implement if you ask it that.

About what you said in the video, that you didn’t just say something about chatGPT but that it really works, I know and I wasn’t under the impression that you were just saying words. It’s done a good job. Again, thanks so much for taking the time to answer my questions and show me this! Pagination is something that will be the next ‘big’ thing in my plugin, but I think that’s for the summer, when I have some time off of my dayjob haha.

Again, thanks so much for your words, time and the e-mail you sent me.

    Kind regards, Jeroen
