The Oni are the main enemies in the Toukiden series. They are demons that grow stronger as they eat human souls, and were responsible for a disastrous event called "the Awakening", during which they contaminated many regions of the world and killed most of the human race.
Description
A being which derives its own life force from devouring human souls. Large Oni are impervious to most weapons and possess infinite regenerative power. To defeat them, it is necessary to cut off their body parts, expose the essence within them, and destroy it through purification.

Trivia
- Many Oni have human-like noses, including some meant to resemble animals like Windshredders and Onyxwings.
- Most small Oni are based on different yōkai, even having the same Japanese names as them:
- Imps are based on the gaki;
- Blazing Souls are based on the onibi;
- Aurwings are based on the onmoraki;
- Drumbles are based on the nozuchi;
- Howlers are based on the nue;
- Sickleclaws are based on the waira;
- While not confirmed, Razortalons may be based on the karasu-tengu.
- The Japanese names of each Oni have both a katakana and a kanji form, even though they are usually made of real Japanese words. Whenever the name has the character の (no), it never appears on the kanji form.
- It is unknown which is the canon flesh color of the Oni, as it was previously purple but changed to yellow in Toukiden 2.
