  • Rays' Jose Caballero: Notches 44th steal

Caballero went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in a 2-0 win against Boston on Thursday.

Caballero made the start at third base and recorded a single and a steal in the fourth inning. The theft was his third in his past two games and his 44th of the season. Among MLB players, only Elly De La Cruz, Shohei Ohtani and Brice Turang have more steals.

  • Rays' Garrett Cleavinger: Notches save Thursday

Cleavinger earned a save against the Red Sox on Thursday, striking out two batters in a perfect inning of work.

Cleavinger threw 15 of 19 pitches for strikes and recorded multiple punchouts for the first time since Aug. 14. The save was his second of September and his sixth overall this season. The last three Rays saves have been claimed by three different relievers, so it's clear that the team prefers a committee approach to the closer role.

  • Rays' Zack Littell: Posts another scoreless start

Littell (8-9) earned the win over Boston on Thursday, allowing one hit and recording seven strikeouts without issuing a walk over seven scoreless innings.

LIttell allowed just one baserunner in the outing (on a third-inning single). The right-hander retired the final 13 batters he faced and was ultra efficient, needing only 75 pitches to complete seven frames. LIttell has held his opponent scoreless in three straight starts, compiling a total of 18 scoreless innings while posting a 16:1 K:BB during that span. The outstanding stretch has lowered his season ERA to 3.56.

  • Rays' Tyler Alexander: Drawing traditional start

Alexander will start Friday's game against the Blue Jays, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Alexander has worked bulk innings for the entire season, though he's fluctuated between working behind an opener and as a traditional starter. Topkin reports there will be no opener Friday, setting Alexander up for his eighth start of the campaign.

  • Rays' Christopher Morel: Not in Thursday's lineup

Morel is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Red Sox.

Morel had started the last two games after missing the two contests prior to that with a sore Achilles. His absence from the lineup Thursday appears to be a routine day off. Most of Morel's playing time lately has come in left field, but Dylan Carlson will handle that spot for the Rays on Thursday.

  • Rays' Jonny DeLuca: Sitting out Thursday

DeLuca is not in the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Red Sox.

DeLuca's playing time has slipped a bit lately, as he's now started just half of the Rays' last eight contests. The club will go with Jose Siri in center field for its series finale against Boston.

  • Rays' Junior Caminero: Day off Thursday

Caminero is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Red Sox.

It will be just his second day off since being promoted in mid-August and his first time out of the lineup in four weeks. Jose Caballero will cover third base for the Rays on Thursday while Taylor Walls holds down shortstop.

  • Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Fans 12 batters in no-decision

Pepiot allowed one run on two hits and no walks while striking out 12 batters over six innings in a no-decision against Boston on Wednesday.

Pepiot lasted just two frames in his previous start, but he had a longer leash -- and pitched much better -- Wednesday. The right-hander needed just 76 pitches to notch a quality start and record a career-high 12 punchouts, though he had to settle for a no-decision in a game during which the Rays' offense managed just one run. Pepiot may be held to less than a full workload moving forward, though he showed Wednesday that he can still be effective even when not accumulating a typical starter's pitch count.

  • Rays' Jose Caballero: Taking seat Wednesday

Caballero is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Red Sox.

Cabellero started each of the previous five games for the Rays, but he will begin Wednesday's contest on the bench. Taylor Walls will garner the start at shortstop and will bat eighth.

  • Rays' Jose Siri: Not in Wednesday's lineup

Siri is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Red Sox.

Siri hit a home run and drove in four runs in Tuesday's win over Boston, but he nonetheless finds himself on the bench a day later. Jonny DeLuca will patrol center field for Tampa Bay on Wednesday.

  • Rays' Yandy Diaz: Absent from starting nine

Diaz is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.

Diaz had started the last three games, although he's seen his playing time cut into a bit the last couple weeks as the Rays get a look at some younger players. Jonathan Aranda will start at first base Wednesday, and Austin Shenton will serve as the Rays' designated hitter.

  • Rays' Josh Lowe: Tallies 10th homer

Lowe went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored Tuesday against the Red Sox.

Lowe snapped a 17-game stretch without a long ball, during which he hit only .237 with one RBI and four runs scored. That continued a down season from a power perspective for Lowe, as his slugging percentage and ISO have dropped 99 and 48 points, respectively, from 2023. Positively, he has been active and successful on the basepaths, tallying 24 stolen bases on 25 attempts.

  • Rays' Junior Caminero: Slugs fourth homer

Caminero went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double Tuesday against the Red Sox.

Caminero homered for the first time since Aug. 31, a span of 15 games. He hit only .241 across 58 at-bats in that time to go along with four doubles and a .623 OPS. Positively, Caminero has hit primarily third in the lineup and remains an everyday player for the Rays.

  • Rays' Brandon Lowe: Three homers in eight games

Lowe went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run Tuesday against the Red Sox.

Despite missing time with a finger injury, Lowe has homered three times in his last eight games. He needs one more long ball to reach 20 for the second consecutive season, and his .238 ISO is his highest mark since 2021.

  • Rays' Jose Siri: Drives home four in win

Siri went 2-for-4 with a homer, a double, and four RBI in Tuesday's 8-3 victory over the Red Sox.

The Tampa Bay outfielder put the team in front by a 3-2 margin with his 339-foot solo shot down the left-field line in the fifth inning. Siri later drove home the Rays' last three runs of the game with a bases-clearing double in the eighth. The 29-year-old has fallen out of everyday playing time, starting just 10 of Tampa Bay's 16 games in September, thanks in part to a team-worst 159 Ks in 431 total plate appearances. He is now slashing .192/.262/.379 with 18 homers, 16 doubles, 48 runs scored and 47 RBI this season.
